Brasserie Dieu du Ciel!
Quebec, Canada
Notes: Imperial IPA 16th anniversary

An immoral amount of hops was used to brew this golden hued blond beer, whose source of inspiration was our American IPA, Moralité. Its sharply bitter and resinous notes are balanced by passion fruit and lemon confit flavours. The alcohol brings a touch of warmth thatintermingles with the roundness of the malt.

341ml bottle - an 'immoral' amount of hops was used to brew this offering - gotta love it!

This beer pours a hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly eggshell white head, which leaves some stellar cobwebbed lace around the glass as it lazily sinks out of sight.

It smells of fairly acrid and somewhat dank pine resin, concentrated orange and red grapefruit rind, grainy and doughy pale malt, a touch of biscuity toffee sweetness, some pineapple core-led tropicals, my toddler's wet sidewalk chalk, and a bit of sugary booziness. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, a further gritty graininess, mixed domestic and tropical citrus fruity esters (orange, lemon, and overripe watermelon, to pick out a few), some tricky flinty notes, and more leafy, weedy, piney, and certainly besotted floral green hoppiness.

The bubbles are fairly tame in their barely come-hither and playful frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, with open aspirations of punching up a class, it would seem, and sort of smooth, as those acrid hoppy and hovering boozy essences cast a shadow of some renown. It finishes well off-dry, all the varied malt, fruit, and forest floor detritus (because the sauce put them there, I would imagine) coalescing as such.

Overall, not a bad version of the style, with lots of domestic and exotic fruitiness on display, enough to keep that testy pine tree thing duly reined in. In some corners of judgment, everything we do on this site is 'immoral' - thankfully for the rest of us, only this sexy beast can actually claim to be so.

Bottle: Poured a hazy bright amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of apricot and citrusy hops notes with nice floral undertones. Taste is a mix of apricot and fruity ester with some citrusy floral notes with some residual sugar notes that are easily noticeable. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Enjoyable IIPA but I think I actually prefer the regular version which is more easily drinkable.

Served in ahaker glass. Pours a hazy yellow colour, with some floaties. Medium head, short retention. Normal lace.
Aroma of caramel, resins, tropical fruits and, sorry, a bit of carboard and butter.
Medium to full body, creamy palate, normal carbonation.Bitter piney finish with some cardboard and butter again.
Taste of resins, caramel, tropical fruits, some butter.
I don´t know if I reached one in not very good conditions, it could be a very good beer, but has some deffects that really annoy me.

2/23/2016 bottle.

Hazy, some head, thin ring leaves some lace.

Pleasant, but not a huge aroma... Mango, papaya, candied pineapple, sponge toffee and pine.

Lots more hops in the flavour, solid, but not overbearing bitterness.

Moderate to full body has plenty of hop acidity, with a drying alcohol finish.

A hop heads delight.

Pours a very hazy orange body, decent head. Lots of dried peaches and apricots, a certain dankness. DDC kind of has a niche with beers between IPA and DIPA. Really an imperial IPA as it's strong on the flavor but not necessarily hoppy.

The beer comes in a hazy rich orange with touch of amber.

The beer offers dank, resin, ripe honey dew, ruby grapefruit, sweet, yet light white bready malt, lingering bitterness.

The beer is clean and crisp for a DIPA, tons of hops. By far the exception of what DDC can do with hoppy. Hands down the best beer from them.

it's an imperial ipa, it looks like it. Blond/amber unfiltered. Shy head.
Smell is passion fruit hoppy. Its tasty, its strong and smooth and bitter fruity
The feel is dense and the carbonation is shy too. Pretty good stuff.

341ml bottle poured into tulip 3/5/16

A hazy golden orange, lots of tiny suspended particles throughout, just a few slow streams bu bubbles but they manage to pump out tow fingers of well sustained foam that leaves lots of random lace

S peaches, passion fruit, tangerine, sweet orange, lychees, and pineapple, has a nice tropical nose but its not a complete hop runaway as there's a little caramel, some pine and booze

T maybe some over ripe mango, more rind then the tropical flesh I was smelling but still tropical, slightly more caramel and maybe a hint of brown sugar, more pine and still has some booze popping up

M leaning towards full, bitter for sure but not overkill, enough bubbles to give it some life but rather still, a little sticky and some heat but fairly well manged

O solid DIPA for sure, a few tweaks and this would be amazing, don't get me wrong its a great beer but just stops short of true greatness

I just love it when top 100 Canadian beers just pop up on the shelf in Alberta, its shocking how much great beer I can just buy off the shelf.

Cloudy golden in color with a small white head.

Intense hoppy smell, you get watermelon, oranges, apples and grapefruit aromas.

Tastes mostly how it smells, really fruity in the mouth, you wouldn't guess the 9.2% ABV.

Nice bitterness and mouth feel. It's like the already amazing Moralité but cranked up.

Pours a hazy golden orange color with 1-2 fingers of creamy head with decent retention and nice lacing. The nose is massive fruit juice with loads of citrus and tropical fruit. The taste is a blast of dank, wet hops dripping fruit juice, lots of citrus (tangerines, oranges), overripe topical fruit, and a bit peppery with a nice sweet (but not overly) malt to balance and blend. Nice round, smooth feel with nice carbonation and absolutely dangerously drinkable. This is a fantastic IIPA.

I suspect this is a situation where the cask treatment harms the beer. The bitterness is a bit too strong, drowning out the bright tropical fruit flavours that exist. Notable malt flavour. Would like to try on tap.

Appearance - Pours a hazy peach with a finger of bubbly white head.

Smell - citrus hops, tropical fruits, caramel, bready malts, and orange.

Taste - Citrus hops followed by the tropical fruits and orange. The caramel and bready malts finish the brew off.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with a pleasant lingering bitterness from the citrus hops.

Overall - A well rendered DIPA that delivers on the citrus and tropical notes. Another winner from this great brewery.
