Smuggled over the border from Montreal (not really). Didn't get to try it at the brewpub but this is the next best thing.

A- Poured into a pint glass with a pale and hazy Wit look. Snow white head forms to a small size and fizzes out pretty quickly. Just a few tiny spots of lace.

S- A bit of a milder Witbier aroma. It doesn't blast you with bubble gum, lemon and spice but it is all there. Light malts and fruit too.

T- Builds nicely from the smell. This Witbier strain isn't harsh or forced like some examples of the style, it takes the mildness of the aroma and works well on the palate. Notes of citrus (orange, lemon, slight peach), spices (coriander, floral, clove, peppercorn) and fruit. Hops lend earthy, floral and herbal hints. Light sweet malt background.

MF- Creamy light body that feels silky smooth on the palate. Carbonation is moderate and there is just a slight bitterness in the finish.

Tasteful use of coriander and citrus additions here. The spice doesn't take the show but blends in nicely with the natural spicy flavors from the hops and yeast. One of my favorite Wit flavors thus far.

A - Really cloudy with no head or carbonation. Pale yellow colour. For a beer with no head, it looks good.

S - Zesty, banana, fruits, lemon, citrus.

T - Smoothn and light with a refreshing zesty character and spice in the finish.

M - Light body appropriate for the style and ABV. Really smooth.

D - High drinkability on this. Really nice flavours that don't get dull.

A nice, somewhat hazy, and very bright golden yellow then came out of over me. Very nice carbonation was visible, with the chains of bubbles really just reaching up toward the top throughout the session. There was a good three finger high head of white foam that only very slowly faded away, and even once it was gone there was tons of side glass lace present. Pretty much a very good look for the style, I really thought it looked very nice indeed.

The aroma was somewhat light, but once you let it warm up it started to come out at you a little bit better. Very nice light fruits, hints of banana and apricot, lots of cinnamon and nutmeg really far in the back, with a touch of a pepper like smell as well. The flavor followed suit just the same, with a very nice, light body ale. Tons of carbonation and a really crisp, clean feeling. The first flavor to come over was the light grain, and a touch of yeast, some banana poking around in there as well, with a sparkling quality to it. Nice touch of bitter grapes toward the finish, giving that little bit of a hoppy touch to dry out the finish and get you ready for another sip. Not a hint of alcohol in here what so ever, as this was really solidly put together. I could have kept drinking this one all day long, it was just that good. Really a very nice, high quality ale.

A - hazy straw golden, short white head dissipated to a thin covering with no real lacing
S - bready grainy malt, light fruity yeast, banana, and mild spices
T - perfumy and sour fruits up front, cloves, allspice, milky banana, light pepper lingers
M - light, refreshing, spicy, fruity, and just a little dry to finish
O - more of a hefe than a witbier but those are close cousins anyway, easy drinking yet big in easy drinking flavours, but a little pricey for what it is

341 ml bottle bottled January 2011.

Appearance- Pours a cloudy pale golden yellow with a very thin bubbly head. Bubbles are present despite the fogginess.

Smell- Orange peel, lemon, coriander, and clove aromas followed by a hint of black pepper and banana.

Taste- The spice flavours are nicely balanced with the taste of wheat. The orange and lemon flavours are subtle yet add a touch of sweetness to an overall savoury beer.

Mouthfeel- Light to medium bodied with light carbonation. Pretty enjoyable.

Overall- A refreshing witbier by Dieu du Ciel. I am pleasantly surprised by the intensity of the spices, which may have to do with this bottle being from Jan 2011. I like that the orange is present but does not overpower the flavours of the beer.

Pours a very pale straw colour with big bubbles clinging to the side. Lots of haze, head is snowy, sinks but leaves lovely thick webs of lace behind. Pretty damn nice witbier.

Zing! Huge fruit on the nose, masses of citrus, orange and lemon with a sherbet twang to it. Tang that up ya! A bit hint of rubber and maybe some banana at the back, but yeah, really nice tropical smell, grounded well by mild bitterness. Could use a little bit more obvious spice, although there are noticeable traces of nutmeg/coriander lingering at the back. Almost perfect otherwise.

Taste has more of those same tropical fruit notes. A lot of orange, lemon, grapefruit, with a tartaric twang on the mid. Finish has really nice bitterness to clean up, mild spice with coriander and nutmeg, more of that rubber character and a hint of pine wood. The fault lies in this odd sweetness that underlies the whole palate and gives a slight saccharine edge to the otherwise pleasant finish.

Swills nicely in the mouth with lots of body, but leaves very dry indeed. Otherwise nice but yeah the dryness is palpable.

If you can ignore those couple of excesses, this is a very good wit with nice flavour bouncing off it.

Bottle: Poured a hazy yellow color ale with some white haze and a big foamy head with good retention and great lacing. Aroma of coriander and loads of wheat are the main point here. Taste is a mix between some orange peel, some coriander and nice bubblegum wheat malt. Loads of character for the style with a full body and great carbonation. Very well done and it would be nice if the beer was offered outside of their mix pack.

Montreal brewers love this style and have adopted it as their own. The heavenly pale straw-yellow color hints at the style, which is confirmed by a slightly fruity aroma and hints of coriander and white spices. The beer is light bodied and very thirst quenching.
