12oz bottle from Steve000 (thanks!). As with all Dieu du Ciel beers I can't decipher their "dating" system. Served in a goblet.

Pours a deep, murky orange with about two fingers of near-white head. Excellent retention with fairly consistent surface haze and a healthy collar that deposits several large swaths of lace.

Aromas of fresh citrus, yeast, floral notes, bread and an almost clove-like spice. Not necessarily vibrant but it is certainly pleasant enough.

Taste follows the nose. Grapefruit peel, must, flower petals, honey, bready malts, grass, mild pepper, a little clove and intermediate doses of booze. The Citra hops play beautifully with the base tripel and seem to balance the taste in such a way as to mitigate the double digit abv.

Dry, medium full feel with moderate carbonation. The aftertaste is floral with some candied citrus peel.

I'm well aware that the addition of Citra hops may bend the style a bit but Herbe à Détourne is a freakin delicious tripel. The citrus boost from the hops compliment rather than cover the base tripel to fantastic results. I'd recommend this one to tripel lovers and hopheads alike.

A:
Pours a sunny golden orange with a half finger of bright white foam that dwindles to a film with a ring around the glass. Meh retention; good medium lacing. (3.75)

S:
Super bright and fruity. Grapefruit, green grapes, sweet dough, floral/slightly herbal hops; really even, round smell. (4.25)

T:
Earthy and fresh. Dry, dusty yeastiness, some bittering lemon zest, candied grapefruit, tiny, drying alcoholic tingle at the end. (4)

M:
Fuzzy-feeling and slightly warm with a medium body and a lingering finish. (4)

O:
Very good example of a tripel.
This is a pretty solid beer to begin with but I feel that the addition of citra hops really compliments the floral qualities and alcoholic bitterness in the beer. It is an easy drinker that I think is best described as 'bright' with a slight boozy fuzz to it and a nice floral/citrus aroma.
The only thing I feel could be better would be for it to be a little richer and bigger (more like a Belgian) without having any more alcohol. I let it warm for about 30 minutes out of the fridge and I still felt like it smoothed out as it warmed in the glass. Try it at cellar temp or a touch cooler.
Will have again; worth finding to try. (4.25)

A-Cloudy yellow with a white head that lingers
S-Citra, yum, with a hint of yeast and some background malt flavors
M-Carbonation spot on
T-Citra comes out strong, the fruitiness (Citra-tropical fruit) from the chosen malt are a nice forward and good balance to the subtle bitterness.
O-Great beer, it is on the sweet side for my palate, but became a roller coaster from sweet to bitter on the finish.

Delicious. The hop aroma comes through nicely and add an interesting twist. A little on the dark side for a tripel, but it plays well.
