341ml bottle, dubbed an 'Old style India Porter' - so a hopped-up roasty porter, is what I'm guessing.

This beer pours a clear (I think), very dark brown colour, with subtle orange cola highlights, and two chubby fingers of puffy, rocky, and bubbly beige head, which leaves a decent band of freaky webbed lace around the glass as it evenly bleeds away.

It smells of well roasted caramel malt, a prominent oily nuttiness, bittersweet cocoa powder, some free-range wet ashiness, muddled citrus and bruised pome fruity esters, and soft piney and leafy green hop bitters. The taste is bready and still rather toasty caramel/wheat malt, grainy medium chocolate, some orange and white grapefruit pith, charred coffee grounds, a twinge of black licorice, and more plain leafy, piney, and herbal hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its supportive and sometimes merely cheeky frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and actually quite smooth, just a few ashy specks to pick out of your teeth once in a while, no biggie! It finishes on the sweet side, despite what the label says - those chocolate and mixed fruity notes hard to dispel.

Overall, a pleasant enough re-formatting of a few different beer styles, which, in the end, turns out to resemble a well-made American Black Ale or Cascadian Ale, if you prefer (I do). Rich, easy to drink, and complex, nothing to complain about here, which is a thankfully common thing with this brewer.

A: Pours a dark brown, lightly translucent body with a beige colored head. Really solid retention considering this version only has 6.2% ABV.

S: Smell is quite faint, but it has a lot of character. The hops notes are quite light with vague notes of citrus and herbs that seem to end up mixed with the roasted notes. The porter parts of this "India Porter" are very good and very traditional with a ton of chocolate malts, smoked notes, vanilla, licorice, chocolate milk, leather and some musk. Really well done, just not strong so you have to focus quite a bit to get everything.

T: This is super solid here too. The hops really are more present with some citrus rinds coming through and herbal dryness. Those, like in the smell, blend with the roasted notes of the malt perfectly and just complements it very well. The porter aspects are again quite good with vanilla, licorice, smoke, chocolate malts and leather. Really solid stuff, just not blow my mind good though.

O: This is a really solid brew that I would easily recommend. It's very well executed and you can clearly see what the objective was. It's not amazing, but very good.

It pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. There is a bit of lace.
Nice aroma: roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee.
The coffee is more apparent in the taste. There is some chocolate also. Later in the taste some char comes through and I am thinking espresso.
Medium-bodied, on the dry side.
I think the beer tasted very good, considering it is almost a year and a half old.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color porter with nice brown foamy head with good retention and some good amount of lacing. Aroma consists of huge amount of roasted malt with quiet a bit of chocolate notes. Taste is also dominated by loads of roasted malt notes with some chocolate notes and light dry finish with some green hops notes. Body is tad thinner then I was expecting with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Loads of flavors with an overall dry taste but avoiding the astringency territory.

Black color with a nice head. Aroma is hoppy with some roastiness. Nice aroma a little in the range of black IPA but not strong enough to be IPA.

Taste is roastiness with a finish all hoppy. Grassy. Delicious and so easy to drink.

A nice beer from DDC!

Cheers.

Bottle purchased at AJ's Beer Warehouse in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a dark brown, nearly black, with a tight half inch head, and a bit of lacing.

Smells like resinous and burnt pine, roasted malt, tobacco, and smokey chocolate.

This is a nice dry and hoppy porter. It's classified as an old-style India porter, whatever that means. It definitely seems like it means it's a pretty hoppy porter. It's resinous, and basically burnt tasting, but in a good way. There's a bit of roasty coffee, dry and powdery chocolate, tobacco, with basically no sweetness.

This is medium bodied, pretty creamy, with a good level of carbonation.

The world needs more dope porters like this one.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to a ring around the glass with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate and good coffee, slightly boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt with good char, rich coffee, dark chocolate, thins out a bit into a charry, moderately hopped finish; ultimately leaving a bitter hop and espresso coffee aftertaste. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A very nice, well toasted porter. The smoky char flavors are good, there is realistic coffee and quality chocolate. The finish alone is a winner for me, it really tastes like that last, concentrated, slightly gritty sip from a quality cup of coffee; smoky and earthy. I wish I could get this brewery's beer more regularly in Seattle; I got this bottle in California. It's a year old, but still holding up well.

Wow! There is a lot going on in this beer! Coffee, chocolate, hazel nut with a dry hop finish at the end. I like that it has those flavours but is not sickly sweet.

I was expecting more of a hop profile - this is basically a solid Porter with complexity.

Tight tw finger head with great lacing. Bit of chicory and earthy hops in the flavor as well as unsweetened chocolate. Body is medium with a lasting bitterness. Glad DDC bottled this.
