The beer is hazy brown, almost black color. The foam is beige with small solid bubbles. The foam disappears leisurely soon, leaving thin fine grooves. Smells of roasted malt, caramel, burnt wood, old ashtray. There are touches of dark rye bread, coffee, dark chocolate and bitter orange. The flavors of roasted malt, coffee, bitter. Dark chocolate, hints of dark rye bread, espresso, cocoa. Clear bitterness with sweetness. Good taste containing all tastes, but nothing takes over. Good balance and sweet notes. Rich body. Moderate carbonation. Total dryness, sweetness, good bitterness.

Bottle purchased at AJ's Beer Warehouse in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a dark brown, nearly black, with a tight half inch head, and a bit of lacing.

Smells like resinous and burnt pine, roasted malt, tobacco, and smokey chocolate.

This is a nice dry and hoppy porter. It's classified as an old-style India porter, whatever that means. It definitely seems like it means it's a pretty hoppy porter. It's resinous, and basically burnt tasting, but in a good way. There's a bit of roasty coffee, dry and powdery chocolate, tobacco, with basically no sweetness.

This is medium bodied, pretty creamy, with a good level of carbonation.

The world needs more dope porters like this one.

Really good looking, pitch black with red hues and a 2 inches off-white/"yellowy" head that's really creamy with a lot of lacing. Nice dark chocolate aromas with roasted notes, also there's a subtle aroma of fresh hops. In the mouth it's like drinking liquid dark chocolate. There's still the roasted malts that are present but it's mostly a dark chocolate taste. You have a nice bitterness too it, not overpowering at all but you know there's a decent amount of hops in it. Nice carbonation and feel too.

From a 12oz bottle, dated 2016-01-15. Served cool in a tulip.

Pours a deep mahogany with cola highlights, a scant finger of short-lived, loose, tan head and thin sheets of scummy lace.

Smells of fresh-perked coffee and fudge, oranges and tobacco.

Tastes of mocha java, earthy and nutty. Toasted oats, dry dusty chocolate powder, chicory, orange rind and bhong water. Well bittered, clean, very little lingering aftertaste.

The feel is dry, resinous and well carbonated. Medium bodied, smooth and way-too-easy drinking.

Overall... well, overall, I don't know why I bother to review DDC beers because I know I'm going to like them a lot. I always do. And I don't know why I bother to review stouts and porters because I always say OMG, this is one of the best stouts/porters I've ever had! Screw you people; stop making fun of me.

A delicious hoppy Porter where the focus is all on the balance of flavors. It pours a pitch black with short lasting tan head. Inviting aromas of dark fruit, dark chocolate and molasses. Flavor is where this wins. Follows nose and good layers of dark chocolate fudge, prunes, raisins, some coffee. Tad lighter body but at 6.3%, one gets a lot for flavor and leaves room for more beer.

Black color with a nice head. Aroma is hoppy with some roastiness. Nice aroma a little in the range of black IPA but not strong enough to be IPA.

Taste is roastiness with a finish all hoppy. Grassy. Delicious and so easy to drink.

A nice beer from DDC!

Cheers.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to a ring around the glass with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate and good coffee, slightly boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt with good char, rich coffee, dark chocolate, thins out a bit into a charry, moderately hopped finish; ultimately leaving a bitter hop and espresso coffee aftertaste. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A very nice, well toasted porter. The smoky char flavors are good, there is realistic coffee and quality chocolate. The finish alone is a winner for me, it really tastes like that last, concentrated, slightly gritty sip from a quality cup of coffee; smoky and earthy. I wish I could get this brewery's beer more regularly in Seattle; I got this bottle in California. It's a year old, but still holding up well.
