Had on tap at Milford--served into a pint glass

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, bright orange-yellow, hazy, medium carbonation

Smell:Wheat and funk

Taste: orange, lemon, big wheat, and funk

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and carbonation, sweet with light bitterness

Overall: This one seems to taste and drink more like a saison than the advertised wheat beer. It is not bad for a saison, worth trying, but I did end up ordering a different beer next. Not a beer I would go out of my way for.

1/2 growler filled at Beverage world in Peekskill, NY

Pours heavily clouded under a nice lookin looser off white head, leaving gauzy froth and fluff and respectable lace.

Fruity sweet nose, with oranges and coriander

More ripe fruit on the palate, with some pepper and yeast. Also more coriander. Not bad certainly better then the reviews reflect. Decent wit, that borders on a saison. Some more spice, light smoke and drying hops in the finish.

Worth a try and likely this would go well with some cheese and salads

date of tasting: 5-2-2013
place of tasting: Barley Vine - Bristol, CT
beer: Hydroponic White
brewery: South Port Brewing Company
brewery location: Shelton, CT
type: ale
style: witbier
abv: 5.2%
ibu: n/a
glass: mug w/appearance test in tasting glass
temperature of beer: 45F

Appearance: looks like cloudy lemonade, head pours thin and floats away like tumbleweeds.

Smell: light lemon peel and soft wheat, then falls flat

Taste: thin, watery. lemon head candy up front with barely a suggestion of wheat. More tasting brings out more sugar, I feel like I’m drinking soda with that fake lemonade mix in it, except they put more sugar in it than lemon flavor. No witbier spiciness, coriander or orange peel whatsoever.

Mouthfeel: light bodied, creamy like a watered down shot of limoncello

Overall Impression: judging quality and craftsmanship I’m not impressed. As an easy drinking summer beer; sure I’d take a few of these to the beach with me, lay out in the sun and relax. But I’d also do that with a Corona.

Food Pairings: chocolate cake, pizza, a shrimp and crawfish po’boy, steak, anything Mexican, lamb skewers over curry rice
