Goose Island Beer Co.
Illinois, United States
Notes: With a light fruity aroma and a bright, crisp finish, Goose Island Summertime Kölsch is the perfect summer session ale. A Kölsch beer brewed in the traditional German fashion, you’ll find yourself enjoying and savoring each sip of Summertime as much as you do those hot summer days and cool summer nights.

Definitely comes off as more of a light lager style beer than a kolsch. It has a kinda adjunct lager smell with a little grass, and the taste is a fairly bland biscuity taste and lemon is there but doesn't do anything except water things down.

This is a pretty average kolsch, but very well made.

It's pretty in the glass. Golden yellow with a nice constant fizz. The aroma is weak though, just a simple fresh smell with some yeast and malt showing.

The taste is correct for the style, but a bit understated. I prefer a kolsch with more finishing hops showing. This one has very little (missing from the smell too)..

I bought these because they were really cheap after rebate. They certainly are drinkable, but not interesting enough to get excited about.

I was fortunate enough to live in Chicago for a while and actually got to visit the brew factory. I guess it was about april when i picked up a 12 pack. My first Kolsch. Excellent beer... slightly fruity, almost helles style ale and an extremely easy going beer. In my opinion its the perfect summer beer.

Wife picked this one for the beach. Aroma is yeasty with lemony essence. Taste is lemon esters and bready. Creamy mouthfeel. I will reiterate what my wife says and I concur-if you are tired of the summer shandies this is a great alternative. I sessioned a sizer and took a great nap on the beach. These go down smooth and frankly pretty good.

Had this one on tap at Goose Island in Chicago and really enjoyed it so went out and bought a six pack. The bottled version was not so good unfortunately.

A - Pale yellow and very cloudy. Small head came up on this with quick dissipation and minimal lacing.

S - Very wheaty, smells like it would be a good light-drinking summertime beer. Some surprising underlying malts, I guess they did say German-style so maybe they're thinking Oktober with that.

T - Kind of floats over your tongue. Light tasting with a bit of citris and some wheat. Some mild malts on the backend.

M - Light-bodied but definately present. Nice carbonation. Very solid and clean.

D - Quite easy to drink, mostly because it's light and the taste is not overpowering. Can easily drink these and enjoy, but it's just a nice beer to drink if it's around, not one to actively seek out.

Review taken Day 3 of the 2013 Masters

12 oz brown bottle with beautiful classic Goose Island labeling. Poured into a stange style glass.

A - literally sunshine yellowish/ bright golden. Crystal clarity. Thin white head settles quickly to a tiny ring of splotchy lace.

S - lager like. Bready malt and yeast aroma. Lemon, and fresh grass with typical kolsch apple/pear aromas.

T - Light lemony citrus with a grassy character. Light breadiness and kolsch style yeast flavors. Light apple note with a refreshing finish.

M - small bodied and thin. Nothing impressive flavor wise but does what it's intended to do in regards of refreshing yourself on a hot afternoon.

O - this is nothing worth going out of the way over, but does deserve some credit for the simple fact it was crafted to be a refreshing summer seasonal. No complaints In that department as it did just that. Nice to have around while putting in a hard days work out in the yard. While its nothing spectacular, it definitely is one of the best in it's style. For me personally the jury is still out on the kolsch style, but this particular kolsch isn't all that bad. It is sad to see Goose Island beer being crafted somewhere other than Chicago and I sure hope its not all of them. As long as some of its still made in its true home I'll continue to buy. If that changes sadly I'll be forced to let a great former brand go. As for now nothing has really changed. Summertime is still the same old summertime I've poured on many of hot summer days.

I love a good kolsch. Unfortunately this stuff is complete garbage. Smell is bad and tastes nothing like a kolsch. Don't waste your money. A much better option from the Chicagoland area if you can find it is Krisp from Cahoots Brewing.

I poured a bottle into a wiezen glass.

Appearance- Golden yellow color with a fingers worth of white head. Very little lacing.

Smell- Nice blend of lemon, grass, and malt.

Taste- Very similar to the nose with a bit of sweetness at the finish, which becomes more noticeable the more you drink.

Mouthfeel- Light bodied and smooth. Nice amount of prickly carbonation.

Overall- A nice, enjoyable beer. A good beer to have with some friends while grilling outside this summer.

Poured the bottle into a pint glass. Poured a nice light golden color with a think head. Very fruity in the aroma with hints of honey. Very crisy in the tase with good carbonation. Fairly dry with hints of honey and light flowery taste coming in. Ends with some honey and grassy notes. Very easy to drink. A good summer session beer, just not up to the Cologne counterpart.

Pours with a decent sized head. Light, pale yellow. Smells of pale malts, somewhat grassy. Not a bad smell, but just OK. Refreshing and slightly sweet. Carbonation is apparent..thin body, with a dry finish.

I enjoy the style and this is a decent representation. It's a solid summer beer, nothing fancy, but when I'm in the mood for a Kolsch it's readily available and inexpensive.
