L: Pours bright dark brown with ruby highlights under a 1” light tan foam cap that recedes moderately fast to a thick film.

S: Nutty chocolate, spice, lightly roasted malts and a trace of fruit aromas. The malt aromas are medium to medium high, the hop aromas are medium low, the yeast aromas are low.

T: Chocolaty, nutty, rich caramel, hints of Nutella, a trace of tartness on the finish and it dries out slightly. The malt flavors are medium high, the bitterness is medium to medium low, the hop flavors are low and there are moderate to low levels of fruit.

F: Medium body and carbonation, smooth and refreshing.

O: A well made and easy to drink brown ale.

Goose Winter Ale - Goose Island Beer Co. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew's head is two fingers thick, with solid lacing, and a dark brown body.

Smells like nicely toasted malts with just a touch of the "nutty chocolate aroma" mentioned on the labeling.

I taste a really good blend of the components described above, along with a mild booze note. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

The mouthfeel here is smooth and clean.

I'll give an overall for Goose Winter Ale - Goose Island Beer Co. 4.25

Pint on draft at Parker's in Portland, Maine.

Appearance: Rich brown/amber color with a two-finger eggshell head that dissipates swiftly.

Aroma: Some chocolate note, some herbal hops. Faintly woody.

Taste: More chocolatey than I expected. Caramel is there, too. Pretty rich. Those herbal hops from nose are there.

Mouthfeel: Close to full flavored. More complex than most browns, and most seasonal/main run Goose stuff.

Overall: Very nice flavorful brown. Doesn't scream "winter," but definitely works as a cold weather seasonal. Reminiscent of a Scottish ale, somewhat. Would give this another go.

Poured a dark amber color into my WPF pint glass. Small tan head.
Aroma of caramel and spice.
Taste followed the nose. Cinnamon up front, some caramel.
OK beer, not very inspirational.

From a 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 04 Oct 2016 in a snifter on December 6, 2016.

Attractive looking clear ruby colored body with a semi-durable tan head.

Aroma: sweet caramel malts, faint vanilla and chocolate, lightly spicy.

Flavor: lightly sweet; lots of caramel; very mild bitterness at the finish.

Feel: Medium body. Smooth. Medium-light body.

Overall: more Scottish than American Brown Ale.

The Winter Warmer is a solid brown ale. It poured a deep reddish brown with thin head and no lace. The scent was toasted bread. The taste was caramelly sweet. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall quite tasty...a nice sessionable brown ale.
