I was able to get few Props this year, but after reading the reviews here, I got worry about the quality and taste of this beer and had to try it before deciding to age it for some time.

I opened it with 2 of my friends, and I have to tell you that I have no idea why this beer is getting so many bad reviews, especially 86 rating, which is below a lot of beers that can’t even compare to this in quality. In my opinion it is definitely at least 94.

Good quality Bourbon County Stout and a very well balanced chipotle peppers spiciness with the sweetness of maple syrup taste.

The chipotle peppers are listed on the bottle, if you don’t like beers with peppers don’t buy it and later complain that it has peppers in it. I had few other beers with chipotle peppers and this one is definitely one of the best out there. I did enjoy the experience...

But, if you ask if I wish they did something different this year, probably yes. I would love to see at least one more variant. Their 2013 Prop was out of this world.

Good maple up front but the chipotle peppers ruin it. They should have stuck to cocoa nibs and maple. This is a terrible mess. Please get back to basics for Prop next year.

A- Jet black body with nice cocoa brown head
S- Chocolate, vanilla, coconut, some roasty malts
T- Tons of chocolate, bit of vanilla/oak, followed by medium chilli pepper
F- Milk shake quality
O- Impressed with this one. Really enjoyed the chilli and chocolate. I don't get any maple but thats ok, this beer is still good.

Had it on tap. Smoky choco on the front side, w dark fruits that I could not identify. As it warms, comes through as a muted BC base w bland taste similar Regal Rye but not as fruity. Hottish pepper.Maybe some maple. Definitely better after 15 minutes in the glass.

This one pours a dark syrupy looking black, with no head or lacing.

Smells like fleshy and spicy peppers, sweet maple, fudgy fudgy chocolate, and bourbon.

There's lots of the classic sweet bourbon and charred oak profile of the base beer beer here, with lots of great pepper flavor layered in. The pepper builds in heat intensity as it goes, and the maple syrup balances it out with sweetness. I can't exactly tell what the added cocoa nibs do here, as Bourbon County is already super fudgy already.

This is thick and syrupy, with barely any carbonation.

There's been some disagreement as to the merits of this. I'm firmly in the camp of it being good.

On tap.
Much like last year's Prop, I can only say that peppers ruin BCBS, and it just gets worse and worse with time. Bad waste of good barrels and base beer, and a big mistake for InB...erm, that is, Goose Island.

super cool preview night out on Long Island in New York tonight (black Wednesday) at Jacksons in commack. good dinner fun company but this beer....I dunno. really peppery. most people i am with are not digging it. the spice is too in your face. the chocolate however is very nice. body is super sludgy. it's ok, but definitely the worst of all the props thus far imo. the maple kinda clashes w the whole thing too. not for me.

Had at prop day. Dark color with minimal head. Nose is bourbon with a hint of pepper. Taste is mostly bourbon with a. Good amount of sweet maple behind it. Slight finish if pepper but overall pretty muted. Feel is your standard thick bcbs feel. Overall a very good beer.

Pours pitch black with about 1 and 1/2 fingers of dark tan head that quickly fades to nothing. A hint of maple on the nose. The taste is what really got me on this brew. I will chime in with what a lot of others pointed out in that the addition of peppers really turns the beer into more of a mess than anything else. I could actually pick out the chocolate on some sips, and a very hint of maple other times, but whatever I DID initially pick up was quickly overtaken by the heat of the peppers. Overall a well made beer, in that I did get all the flavors, but the pepper was not dialed in correctly.

Bottle poured into snifter. Rich dark color with modest carbonation leading to little to no head. Maple and hint of chilies are evident to nose. Cocoa nibs and maple on ftont of palate and chilies on back. Medium body - a very nice beer.

A proprietors variant with mixed reviews. Undoubtedly a good beer, however... notes below. Bottled 15SEP16 1028, 13.1% ABV.

Nose is a dark chocolate chili candy bar. So fudgy, so rich.
Fudgy, roasty, hot. Chili’s really come out. Pretty good balance. So different than ‘17
Sticky, smooth body. Medium carb.

Where to begin with this one. The smell is peppers and chocolate. The first taste is strong cacao followed by peppers. Zero maple flavor. After a few sips and as the beer warms you get a slight smoke flavor from the peppers. Then all you taste is the peppers. Really overwhelms the entire beer. Pepper flavor that just coats the mouth and lingers. A real let down. Have BA Bomb instead of this unbalanced mess.

16oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that reduces to leave nothing behind

S- the aroma is pure chipotle: barbecue corn chips, mexican spicing, backyard barbecue, smoked meat, chocolate, chili peppers

T- spicy pepper up front imparts some heat in the mouth, followed by a distinct chipotle pepper flavor as well as barbecue smoked meats. The finish gives slightly remnants of Bourbon County with it's signature sweet malty chocolate notes, lingers of barrel and chipotle

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a warming finish

O- the most unique BCBS variant I've had, pretty good but not a favorite
