Bottled on 12/16/16,it's obviously no longer spring training in mlb so a little age to the beer.Poured one and a half bottles into a half liter stein,a deep rich bronze with a billowing sticky slight off white head atop, almost looks like an O-fest/Marzen style lager in the stein.Mild toasted bread and caramel in the nose,an underlying pine element is there but the malts show thru much more.Toasted grain and crisp bready malts dominate the flavor profile, mildly sweet caramel malts come thru as well. There is lighter grapefruit in the finish and it rounds out this malt tilted lager,I really enjoyed it.

Goose Island Beer Co. "Preseason Lager"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "BOTTLED ON DATE: 23JAN17BF67" and sampled on 22FEB17
$2 @ Wegmans, King of Prussia, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Preseason lager. At least it's not another IPA - "What the world needs now", right? "GRAPEFRUIT & PINE AROMAS" though, so we'll see. Clear deep amber/copper color with a bit of a reddish cast beneath a short head of off-white foam - it's dropped in the time it took me to get here in my review, so that's not good. It's still got a full surface covering though, although it is mainly whispy. The smell is malty! And there's also pine and fruit, which includes citrus, although I wouldn't call it straight-out "grapefruit". It holds promise, let me taste it... nice, toasty and nutty malt with some almost minty herbal notes and a marmalade-like fruitiness that does have a citrus edge to it. I'm pleasantly surprised at its richness, and I'd think this would actually be a great fall beer, although it works for me right now as the snow is starting to melt outside. The listed 48 IBUs are doing their job and it's kept in check - very nicely balanced, not just in bitterness and maltiness, but also in flavor. Just a little more malt would have thrown off the fruitiness, or vice versa. Impressive. Very clean, and nicely polished. I wasn't expecting a malty beer but here it is. Medium bodied and gently crisp. Nicely done.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear amber brown color with a small white head. The aroma is malt and mild hops. The taste is similar to the nose.

I picked this beer up as part of a make your own 6 pack since a local liquor store was having a special on make your owns. I had never seen this beer from Goose before so I figured I would pick up a single before I committed to a full 6 pack on its own.

This beer pours an amber hue that is quite brilliant and clear with light to moderate carbonation and sports an off-white, frothy head that dissipates nice and slowly to a thin lacing that is retained. 4/5 The aroma is quite malt centric with a good dose of caramel and a bit of rye bread. A bit of grassy and peppery hops come through as well, balancing out the aroma a bit, although the malt is really the big hitter here. 3.75/5 The flavor profile is very similar to the aroma with the malt playing the largest role with a good bit of caramel sweetness up front but also a bit of charred malt that gives off a bit of bitterness that complements the bitterness from the grassy/peppery hops. A nice bit of graininess comes through as well, allowing the caramel to increase in intensity and sweetness. Bitterness is moderate and lingers just a bit after swallowing. 3.75/5 This is a medium bodied beer that is somewhat smooth and creamy while maintaining some lighter, crisper moments. Carbonation is fairly light, allowing the creaminess to come through a bit, which is a bit different for a lager, but is not unpleasant. A touch of dryness works its way through on the back end and slightly lingers. 3.75/5 This is really a good beer put out by Goose and has a very good amount of flavor. Some of Goose's offerings have been a bit "meh" in my book recently but this one really stands out in my mind as a beer that I would gladly come back to and enjoy again. 3.75/5

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a bronze color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some caramel malts. Taste is malts, hops are present, hints of pine and caramel, light bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, not a bad beer, but the flavors just don't seem to mesh for me.

A decent amber ale something I could drink more than a few real crushable beer. Just nothing out of this world .
