Born on date: September 15, 2017. 14.1% alcohol.

The pour is brown, but once it hits my oversize wine glass, it's all black. I think I poured it too cold, I only got a very thin brown head that disappeared almost immediately. Still, it looks like a pitch black wine, which is cool.

The aroma is bourbon, oak and vanilla. The oak and the bourbon aromas seem to combine to give a grapey smell, somewhat vinous and reminiscent of Madeira.

The taste is similar. Sweet and tart at the same time. Vinous again, like Madeira, just not so much. Bourbon. Chocolate. Alcohol. Oak. Lightly cloying.

Full bodied like a fortified wine, with a sticky, syrupy residue. Great retention. Burn of alcohol.

An awesome beer!

In my opinion this was a notch down from the regular BCBS. I absolutely loved this variant. The complexities of the Knob Creek barrels definitely shown through. You get still get the classic deep chocolate notes, vanilla beans, dark fruits, charred oak, and a a boozier finish without the burn. But, I didn't feel as if this was much better than the regular and the hype following this left me expecting a lot more complexity with comparison to the regular. However, if you are also a connoisseur of bourbons it is clear that this brings something new to the table. My perspective could be a little skewed in that sense. Nonetheless, this was by no means a disappointment. It was every bit as good on the nose and in the mouth. I was a little disappointed in how quickly the head dissipated, but when it was present it was a beautiful milk chocolate brown. It was well worth the wait to be able to take part in the rare experience to drink this beer.

Bottled on July 18 2017.Pours jet black with no light getting thru even when held to the light,a thinner mocha colored head atop.Bourbon tinged vanilla and toasted oak stand out most in the nose, sweet alcohol and roast play a smaller role.Warming on the palate with the bourbon playing a major role, vanilla and raisin tinged bourbon soaked fruit cake with a tinge of chocolate that lingers,it is quite boozy but obviously to be expected.A great sipping decadent stout to drink on this shitty snowy winters day.

Had this side by sided with regular 2017 Bourbon County, to really see if there is a huge difference between the two beers. The consensus of 3 drinkers was that there really wasn't enough of a difference to warrant the extra cost. In essence, Reserve is not as sweet, giving the barrel itself a little more expression.

Pitch black in color and impenetrable to light with just a trace of brown head around not even a quarter of the rim. There's plenty of robust and yet lightly sweet bourbon and steadfast and yet aggressively firm pitch black dark malt in the nose. The taste is sweet bourbon forward with sweet bourbon and just a hint of deep, dark black malt in the back of the palate. The mouth is sticky, chewy, and there's a slight boozy burn to the throat with each sip.

16.9 of bottle outed into the tulip glass.

A: Very little head that is a rich mocha in color but disappears immediately. The body is pure inky blackness. Alcohol laces the glass.

S: Lots of toffee, vanilla, and coconut at first blush. Chocolate comes through with a nice roasted malts and sweetness then some of the oak.

T: Lots of sweet alcohol chocolate coconut Lots of the barrel comes out lots of the oak some caramel and vanilla.

M: Medium to thinner lots of alcohol slickness.

O: An excellent beer, but not remarkably different from the regular, not enough to justify the price.

Poured into a BC tulip. Dark in color but not opaque. Minimal tan head. Aromas of barrel, dark fruit and chocolate. Taste is fudgy with dark fruits, oak and bourbon. Delicious. Feel is slick and viscous. Overall, a fantastic BC variant.
