Notes:
A beer so nice, we aged it twice! We took our Bourbon County Brand Stout and aged it for 8 months in a fresh bourbon barrel, like usual. Then we took that same beer and put it in another fresh bourbon barrel for 4 months. This amped up the vanilla, oak, and of course the alcohol leading to a surprisingly well balanced beer.

It's very good fresh (I had it 2 months after release) and 1 year after that (yesterday) and I liked the Elijah Craig 2018 Reserve more so IMO. It's worth trying fresh, pop them now!

This is way to sweet. Like a sweet wine feel, with zero head.

11/14/18 (Chicago): $5 3 oz sample draft glass pour offered via "Epic Flight" at the Goose Island Taproom. Pitch black pour, thin tan bubbly ring. Very strong bourbon aroma. Like straight whiskey from a bottle. Whiskey strong and heavy, nice strong whiskey presence. Light malt, somewhat sweet, excellent balance. Light creamy texture, nice mouth feel, very smooth drinking. Overall excellent pour, not for the faint of heart.

On draft at GI. Dark black body, one finger mocha head, short retention, no lacing. Smell is a strong blast of whiskey and chocolate, especially compared to the base BCBS sitting next to it. Hefty chocolate, touch of cocoa, a bit of toasted grain, cocoa, touch of espresso, minimal dark fruit. Mouthfeel is full bodied, good carbonation, a bit boozy on the backend. Boozier with a bigger barrel presence than the base, as expected. Not necessarily different in character from the base, just that everything is a bit more amplified.

Had at FoBAB poured into a 5oz tasting glass.
THIS is what 2015 Rare SHOULD have been. Very reminiscent of the original 2010 Rare BCS. the booziness and scent of this beer was perfect. Hoping they will bottle this in the future.

Had on tap at FOBAB. With all the hype I thought this be perfect. It was very good, but not perfect. The look and body are still incredible, especially with the enhanced barrel elements, but I felt that the taste lost a little of the sweeter nuances and the smell got cut into a good bit, more pronounced char. If you have had BCBS and wanted more woodiness and/or barrel character, this one is for you!

At FoBAB, didn't think this was worth the hype and line. Still very solid and great BA beer but with everything else at FoBAB honestly nothing stood out for me. Nose wasn't unique or complex or capturing. Tastes great. Maybe I was expecting too much or there was just better beer yday night. Much more impressed with the 2017 BCBS variants.
