New brew from the Goose that I spotted last week. Hadn't heard there was going to be a new seasonal and helped to "update" the listing added by superspak back in December (how did he know there'd be a summer seasonal back in December?). Anyway, I only called it a Munich Helles because of the ingredients listed on the Goose web site -- where they just call it a "lager," it remains to be tasted just what this beer is.

12 ounce longneck poured into my short Becher glass. Bottling date of 08 March, 2018 stamped on the rear label.

L -- Clear, rich yellow-gold with a dense white head that settles to a firm cap.

S -- Light spicy herbal hops up front with an even lighter touch of bready to grainy malt.

T -- Light bready malts at first taste, bitter, but mellow, herbal hops jump in for the flavor command. Some light yeast flavor and graininess in the finish, but the bitter, herbal hops (with a touch of lemon citrus) -- even some mineral character dominate the aftertaste.

F -- Mouthfeel is soft to crisp with a light-medium body.

O -- While this is a well-made, good drinking beer for the upcoming season (they swear it's coming), it's definitely not a Munich Helles -- too much hop character, not enough bready malt. Style change suggestion on the way.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 3/20/2018. Pours crystal clear medium golden/amber color with a 1 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance of bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great robustness and balance of bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance; and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero fruitiness. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is an excellent pale lager! All around great robustness and balance of bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Very flavorful and never watery for the ABV. Very clean and rich Pale/Munich malt flavor showcase, with great earthy hop presence/balance for the style. Almost a German pilsener, but more malty overall. A very enjoyable and well made offering.

A nice start to my trip through the American Lager series. Pours a clear golden color. Tastes clean and crisp. Slightly bitter finish. Great summer beer.

A: The beer is crystal clear golden yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with some white lacing on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of grassy hops are present in the nose along with notes of bready malts and slight hints of spicy hops.
T: The taste is a little maltier compared to the smell, and has flavors of biscuit and bready malts along with notes of grassy hops and hints of mineral water. Only a slight amount of bitterness is present.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink but seems like it could use a little more hops to brighten things up as the malts were a little too prominent.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a shaker pint.

Look - Crystal clear golden with a medium white head made up of large bubbles. Visible streams of strong carbonation.

Smell - A pleasant dry breadiness with grassy earthy hops. Has an unexplainable homeliness to it.

Taste - Tastes nothing like the smell. Has a surprising overripe fruit sweetness to kick things off with that ends with a light floral tone and quickly dissipates to nothing. A simple and pretty beer that I can imagine is refreshing on a hot summer day.

Feel - A thin body with almost no fizz makes this an easy drink. A bit more carbonation would go a long way with this though.

Overall - Good enough but not that great. Fine enough to drink but far from my favorite.

Tasted in a Spiegelau lager glass from a 12 fl oz can on June 15, 2018. A crisp and refreshing lager that has a light, bready malt character balanced with a clean Noble hop flavor aroma.

Clear orange body with a soft, sudsy white head and ambient large bubbles. The nose has fresh bread and a bit of wheat. The flavor also shows a lot of malt, more akin to pilsner/corn than bread, and finishes with a lightly bitter, nicely grassy hop bite that highlights how bone-dry it is. The body is actually medium-full with coarse but not overdone carbonation.
As far as analyzation goes, this beer might not be the most curious; as far as something to sip all day during a Chicago summer, this beer is hella on point.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of sweet caramel, toffee and grassy notes. Sweet caramel with a mild bitterness.

A - Light golden body, crystal clear. Big, rocky head, white flecked with black dots. The fade is gradual, and the lacing extensive.

S - Spicy funk of the noble hop, a bit of apple.

T - Bright open, apple skin and malty sweetness over a spiced quality, and a bitter close.

M - Brisk carbonation and a dry finish. Light and drinkable.

O - A pretty nondescript lager. Not offensive and well built, but pretty standard issue and not that far from the domestics I avoid.
