Poured a deep and dark black/brown with a small head.
The smell was of the standard roasted malt fare, with a light hop profile present.
The taste was nice and bold, with a thick roasted malt flavor of chocolate and coffee. The hop flavor was medium with a moderate amount of bitterness blended well. I thought the flavor was very good and went well with the light/medium carbonation and medium/thick consistency.
A very drinkable beer. Great flavor and consistency was well. I enjoyed several in one night and would buy more for sure.

Dark brown to light black with minimal light penetration. There's a fingernail of beige about the size of a quarter in the middle of the glass. The aroma is of sweet oatmeal and bakers chocolate. I'm tasting chocolate and oatmeal. The mouth is lightly oily and chewy.

I used to buy this all the time before it was discontinued in 2010. Now it's back with a slightly adjusted ABV from 5.1% to 5.4% along with a new label. I contacted the brewer about the change in ABV, but unfortunately didn't get a useful answer.
2017 - 12oz, bottled on 27JUL17.
Pours jet black with a creamy tan head. Heavy roasted nose with char, chocolate, and oats in the background. Bold roasted barley with dark chocolate, earthy hops, faint anise, burnt coffee, and oats. Fuller side of medium for body; quite astringent, finishing dry with char remaining on the palate. Overall, big roasty oatmeal stout. The char and burnt flavors get a bit overbearing, but it's not bad enough to deter me from liking the beer. Nice to come back to this one after all those years.
