Notes: A love letter from Quinn Fueschel, the brewer behind Prop 2017, to his wife who loves cherries, Mon Chéri is this year’s fruited variant of BCS.

Mon Chéri is made with Balaton and Montmorency cherries and brewed with oats and brown sugar. Expect flavors of cherry cobbler, vanilla, and chocolate in one of the more complex fruited versions of BCS to come out.

“I had been toying with using granola in Bourbon County Stout for some time, and cherry has been a classic flavor in stout, and it was my wife that thought to marry the two together,” Fueschel said. “After many tweaks, we found a nice mix of granola, oats and brown sugar, that gave us a ‘pie crust’ element to the beer. Mon Chéri is ‘my darling’ in French, a nod to the inspiration of this variant blend, and Megan is beyond excited to have Cherry back in BCS.”

Tasted at Prop day on draft. Black with minimal head. You get a berry to cherry aroma with cocoa. Thick and chewy. Cherry flavor is not overpowering which is nice. Allows cocoa and bourbon notes to come through. Excellent cherry stout.

Bourbon soaked cherry pie. Chewy, boozy, and tart. I can literally lick this from my teeth after each sip. The lack of head and lacing is disappointing, but the nose and taste seems to match what the brewers were going for. I wish I had another bottle to “cellar” for a year or two.

Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Mon Chéri Stout, 14.1% ABV. Pours black, with a slight light-brown head. Nose is cherry, chocolate, and bourbon. Taste is sweet cherry, chocolate, bourbon, and cinnamon. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. I'm liking this one, though I tend to like sweet beers. Still letting this warm...but chocolate is popping already, now like chocolate covered cherries.

Pours black with a half pinky head. Aroma- chocolate, vanilla, caramel, alcohol, hint of cherry. (Basically BCS) taste- chocolate, a hint of cinnamon, vanilla, a slight bit of cherry, strong bourbon. (Basically BCS) Mouthfeel is smooth, full, pretty thick. Overall- listen... it’s delicious it’s good. This is so incredibly subtle that it in my books doesn’t even make it into the category as a variant. Smell is exactly bcs taste is exactly bcs. This is very very tasty. It had just some slight increases on the good taste notes that you’d get from regular bcs. So I really thought it was delicious. But my overall impression is just to feel disappointed that it’s barely different. Sometimes subtlety is nice. This is just too subtle. This was draft. I’ll check the bottle later. Enjoy.

Bottled 8/27/19; drank 11/29/19 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

An even pour yielded a nice, noisy tan head which quickly dissipated; minimal lace.

Sweet cherry, milk chocolate & mild oak notes in the nose.

Thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Sweet cherry & mild chocolate flavors up front; mild oak notes on the finish. As this warmed, the booze became more assertive.

A nice, sweet stout.
