Tropical Beer HugTropical Beer Hug
Notes: This double dry-hopped double IPA grabs you with a big tropical beer hug—bursting with hops, hops and more hops. Notes of mango, pineapple, peach, and citrus are followed up with dank pine notes. Like a bear hug... but from a beer.

19.2 oz can BB 29DEC21

Foggy hazy amber gold appearance, nice rich nutty caramel malt and hoppy tropical fruit aroma, taste is a bit hoppy and malty, fairly balanced, tropical, citrusy, slightly malty, a hint of refreshing pine, resinous, caramely, pretty smooth, medium bodied.

Pours clear orangish yellow with a thick white cap that lasts and leaves nice lacing. continuous stream of effervescent bubbles feed said cap. Aroma is full of tropical fruit. Flavor follows the nose, sweet up front with a nice bitter finish. Feel is medium bodied and somewhat lacking carbonation. Overall a decent DIPA but not great. A 12 ounce portion would be more appreciated than this 19 ounce can.

19.2oz can poured into a pint

A- pours a golden orange color with a one-finger foamy white head that has good retention

S- mango, orange zest, pine resin, bready malt

T- citrusy zesty hops up front give notes of grapefruit and orange, followed by some tropical mango notes. The finish gives some resinous pine with a bit of a bready malt linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns into a slightly creamy finish

19.2oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of bubbly foam. It left sudsy rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of grapefruit, pineapple, orange. sweet caramel and toffee. Sweet tropical fruit taste with toasted caramel and a piney bitterness.

Date on the can says best by 10/29/21 and enjoyed in a 16oz Founders snifter on 8/29/21.
Appearance: Pours a golden yellow, the typical beer color. Translucent without any visible haze with about a finger of foam.
Smell: Considering the DDH I’m surprised at the lackluster aroma. Nose consists of pine and resin with subtle citrus and some cannabis. Pine dominates the front end with some grassy earthy notes as well. Citrus is mostly stone fruit with notes of tangerine, apricot, and mango with some pineapple and orange rind. Cannabis and dank cat piss flavor on the back end, but I’m not complaining. Malts have a cracker and biscuity flavor keeping the beer on the light side.

Taste: Taste follows the nose with piney resin on the front end with cannabis on the back end. Citrus is subtle and the whole flavor profile just feels a bit watered down.

Feel: Light bodied with quite a bit of carbonation which makes the beer less smooth, but it keeps the beer light and fairly refreshing. Despite the lack flavor the 9.9% abv is fairly well hidden.

Overall: This beer is fine but nothing special. The flavor just feels a bit empty and watered down. Probably wouldn’t buy again, not that it was bad, but it wasn’t anything special and there are other beers I need to try.

19.2 oz can, best by July 8th. A little long in the tooth here but it's a high ABV drinker so we should be okay.

Opaque hazy amberish-golden glow, with a finger of head that leaves lace precisely where it was when it recedes.

Aroma of clean water, fresh pineapple, green hop matter, graham cracker, bright and pithy citrus, toasted caramel, honey, and biscuit dough.

Flavor stabs the palate with greens, bringing sharp kale right off the bat. It follows with lemon drop, white grapefruit zest, a hint of honey lozenge, and some bright pineapple and perhaps a suggestion of guava on the finish. Honey lozenge continues on. The taste of diesel is buried only slightly beneath the rest of the flavors here.

Feel is crisp, cutting, mildly resinous and then hugely resinous on the finish, lots of chili-pepper-like heat on the front palate and in the throat, and a drying, whiskey-like finish.

Overall, I didn't care for this one as much as Lost Palate, but it's really not that bad. I think an 88 is about right for this guy. I won't finish it due to its high ABV and calorie count - it has to be equally as enjoyable for me - but the curious person who likes imperial IPAs should give this one a shot. Once. Maybe.

This beer appeals to my eye. It pours a hazy copper color with a relatively thick head. Head dissipated quickly but left a lot of lacing behind.

The smell, for me is close to heavenly. It’s got a piney smell, with mango and citrus following closely behind.

The taste follows the smell pretty closely. This is a tropical juice bomb with plenty of juiciness to round is all out. Really pleasant flavor for a 9.9% beer. The alcohol flavor doesn’t come on strong at all.

This a is a light/medium bodied double ipa. Light carbonation. Pretty smooth. Wonderful for a hot summers day.

Overall, I like this beer a lot more than I thought I would. A really good one from Goose Island here. If you like a high octane juicy double ipa this one may suit your fancy. The pine certainly compliments it all. Really good beer.

Very little head on the pour. Color is gold, but not as deep as a copper look. Nose is sweet tropical fruits and hops. Taste is ripe tropical fruit, dank, hoppy, and malty. The flavors become more amplified as the beer warms. This is a sipper for sure, but a very tasty 9.9% IPA. Can was dated BB date in late September 2021. 19.2 ounce stove pipe for $2.49. Good bang for the book bargain.

Transparent copper pour with a fluffy white head and some nice lacing.

Not a huge nose, but I get hints of dank pine and yeast.

Flavor is definitely west coast, though there is a little bright citrus-y burst in the beginning. The dank pine is the dominant flavor though. It's plenty bitter though and I think the bitterness clashes a bit with the sweetness up front. I do enjoy the bitterness of the nice, long finish though. No alcohol taste, though you can tell it's high in alcohol after a few sips.

Light, easy drinking mouthfeel with a good amount of carbonation. Despite the lightness, it still rolls around the mouth nicely.

A pretty decent example of the "tropical" west coast IPA, though I think the tropical notes are notes are a little one-dimensional and don't necessarily blend that well with the dominant dank flavor of the beer. But the flavor is pretty big and I'll probably drink more of it since it's one of the few craft beers available in my neighborhood of the Bronx.

Tropical Beer Hug has a thick, off white head, and a somewhat hazy gold appearance, with a racing, central bubble stream. In the aroma, wheat predominates. The flavor is of rather sharp bitterness in the lead, with sweet, white bread crust, hop resins, tropical fruit, and fleshy bitterness. Tropical Beer Hug has a medium body and a dry ending.

Pours golden yellow with a 1.5" foamy, white head, which lasts. Heavy lacing to the end.

Aroma is floral, pineapple, grapefruit, pine.

Taste is pineapple, grapefruit, mango, caramel, guava, pine, malty, resinous.

Medium bodied, lively carbonation. Dry, resinous finish.

Outstanding! This is one of the best DIPA's I've had. Excellent across the board.

So. I picked up a 10. 2 oz can of this for three bucks from Firehouse Liquor in Hinckley, Minnesota this evening on the last day of my vacation. I was surprised to see as much tropical fruit and hop flavor in a beer so high on octane and double dry hopped. Definitely some oily bitterness coming into the aftertaste but still kind of sweeter in places than I would like. Still, not a bad value.

Not a big fan of supporting the large brewers, so normally would not try this.
However, I did try a 19.2 oz can and was very pleasantly surprised. It was a very tasty DIPA! I would recommend this and do not agree with some of the low ratings.

Pours a golden straw color with a finger of head. I'm getting more earth than fruit in the nose. There's no fruitiness in the flavor; as a matter of fact it's pretty bland.

Poured chilled in a tulip from the can

The color is golden with great clarity and thick white foam with lace that clings

The smell is fruity with tropical hop scent with mild alcohol in aroma faintly floral sweet ester

The feel is good with light bitterness and semi high carbonation with gentle sweetness and semi-dry finish with alcohol warming in finish

The taste is very good with tangy tropical and semi bitter hop flavor with mild melon-like taste and gentle malt sweetness with alcohol present in taste and light chalky dry finish with a subtlle yeast taste but alcohol palate drying in finish

This is a pretty good Imperial IPA but aroma could be stronger for a Double dry hopped IPA and alcohol is more apparent as it warms, a pint is decent but would be satisfied with 12 oz, pretty good overall

Poured from a 19.2 oz. can. Has an orange color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of mango, oranges. Taste has the same elements as the aroma, as well as lots of alcohol, some bubble gum notes, moderate bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, not bad, but nothing special.

"Best by 7/27/21"; drank 4/10/21 @ the Yarchives.

See-through orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big off-white head; a thick curtain of lace.

Orange peel, table sugar & dry grass notes in the nose.

Sticky, medium mouthfeel.

Orange peel & dry grass flavors up front; baking soda & table sugar notes on the finish. Booze heat emerged as this warmed.

Old model IPA that they gave the "DDH" treatment to; it's alright, but nothing to seek out.

Got hold of the 19.2oz can and poured into standard pint glass. Initial impression is THE ALCOHOL HITS YOU IN THE FACE. Its like they put two shots o vodka in a can and poured a cheap ipa in to fill. Definitely not your typical dank double that sticks to the roof of your mouth, but for the price and gas station convenience, four of these will improve your mood. Yes, its better than 'Voodoo Ranger'. Thats all I can say.
