Notes: We partnered with our friends at Blanton’s and aged our Imperial Stout for 18 months in barrels from one of the world’s most sought-after bourbons—Blanton's Original Single Barrel Bourbon. Taken from the center-cut or middle sections of the famous Warehouse H, Blanton’s Original Single Barrel was once only available for ambassadors, dignitaries, and friends of the Blanton family, but now is available for everyone to enjoy. Just as we set the standard for barrel-aged stouts, Blanton’s set the standard for single barrel bourbons. Through our partnership, we created a truly unique reserve filled with rich dark chocolate and oak notes, finished with warm aromatics of baking spices such as clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

Pours traditional jet black. Incredible aroma of chocolate, vanilla, roastiness, sweetness & bourbon. Taste is equally exceptional-- strong bourbon & chocolate with complimentary vanilla, oaky & cinnamon flavors. Incredibly balanced flavors. A tad bit fuller than usual BCBS mouthfeel. Up there with best BCBS variants.

2021 release
Consumed Christmas 2021

Having had this on tap on Black Friday at the tap room, I knew I’d love it out of the bottle. It was my favorite of all of the releases this year and it’s still living to my past impressions. It’s so thick and full bodied. I LOVE the barrel forward variants the best and this is all bourbon barrel. I had mixed expectations coming in. 18 months sounds great (longer than normal) but honestly Blantons is a sub par bourbon, so I thought it could go any way. The beer is over priced for sure. The presentation is amazing with the bag and mini horse topper. Still give me a regular bottle and $20 price and I’ll have multiples of this for sure. How’s is this different from regular? Without drinking them back to back I can say it has more bourbon and a thicker more syrupy (in a good way) feel. I don’t think it quite measures up to Birthday from last year, but it’s up there as one of their best variants in the past few years. Worth paying retail for and getting a couple if you can.

Classic BCS look, very black with a light tan head.

Lot of chocolate in the smell can pic up the bourbon and some vanilla.

Dark chocolate and bourbon are the dominant flavors here, but is also a bit spicy, with hints of cinnamon and clove.

Very think and creamy, bit hot at the finish due to the aby.

Really nice variation, nicely complex, even though the bourbon is more noticeable than the usual BCS. Amazingly drinkable for the ABV, but a nice Christmas Eve treat.

Bottled 7/26/21; drank 12/21/21 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

An even pour yielded a small, noisy dark tan head; no lace.

Bourbon, caramel, milk chocolate, oak & mild merlot notes in the nose.

Creamy, thick mouthfeel.

Caramel, nougat & milk chocolate flavors up front; strong bourbon & oak notes on the finish.

Very bold, pretty boozy and overall damn good. I'd have another...

Continuing to add to its mystique of the Bourbon County Brand Stout series, Goose Island continues its tradition and complexity in taste, texture and aroma with an eighteen months lumber in select Blanton's bourbon barrels to bring out a once-in-a-lifetime uniqueness in depth and flavor.

Bourbon County Brand Reserve Blanton's Stout kicks off with the familiar onyx color with the viscosity of motor oil, and with the stillness of matured madeira. Captivated in its lavish and roasty perfume, the nose is stricken with espresso, whisky spice, dark chocolate, rummy spice and the oaken nuance of char and boldly fortified bourbons. Its flavors bring a decadent maltiness of dark and roasted malt sugars redolent of blackstrap molasses, chocolate covered espresso bean, candied hazelnuts and toasted gingersnaps to the tastebuds early and often on the tongue.

As those decadent malt flavors reach full saturation of the tastebuds, its sweetness is achingly savory, weaving in the Blanton's soaked oak flavors that begin to share their secrets from caramel, vanilla, whisky spice, coconut and stone fruit. As robust flavors of sherry, madeira, port wine and brandy begin to bring a robust and saucy sense of oxidation to a leathery acidity twinge before the sweet roast turns the corner with a strong fudgy suggestion and spicy rum cake. Woodsy, bourbon drenched and a spicy heat leads to a piquant but sweet finish that exits the palate like walnut brownie, tiramisu and rum, in much the same vein as previous Reserve variation.

Recklessly full, rich and unrelenting for the sweet tooth, the beer's strong dessert-like character lingers indefinitely into the next sip as the bourbon spice, vinous, peppercorn, powdery leather and fruity tobacco nuances continue to develop sip after sip, as the palate acclimates to the stout's power and the warming beer reveals more secrets with every return to the snifter.

Bottle. Tan head. Black color.

Fudge walnut brownies dipped in bourbon. Chocolate cake batter. Baking spices, light nutmeg, chocolate, caramel, oak. The barrels are beautiful. Some vanilla. This is what stouts should taste like. I’m over the Weldwerks thick bois. This is phenomenal. Light roast, amazing warming bourbon. Amazing all around.

Brew: Goose Island Beer Co. - Bourbon County Brand Reserve Blanton’s Stout

Intro: 16.9 oz. poured into a tulip glass. Shared with a friend.

Appearance: Pitch black, Moderate head maybe 1.5 inches. Minimal lacing as I drank

Smell: Nice Blanton’s barrel in the foreground. Dark chocolate and perhaps some cinnamon in the background.

Taste: Followed the smell. Blanton’s up front and center.

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

Drink: Very nice, as one would expect from a Bourbon County brew.

Conclusion: I’ve never been fortunate enough to locate real Blanton’s bourbon but just so happens as I was leaving the store I caught a glimpse of the famous horse on top of the bottle so of course I had to buy it. We had about two ounces after the beer and it just reaffirmed the taste of the beer. All in all a very enjoyable brew on black Friday

Pours a dark vicious black color with a tan mocha head and small amounts of clinging lace then with a small thin fresh cap thru out. Smell is classic BCBS /bourbon with molasses, char, chocolate and barrel. Taste follows the nose with strong barrel/bourbon notes vanilla chocolate and char.Mouth feel is strong on the barrel but not overly boozy/hot. A pleasure to sip
