Served in a snifter at Goose Island-Clybourn 5/1/10.
A: Served a cloudy light brown with an obvious red tint. A thin yet exceedingly creamy, 3/4 finger, off-white head stuck around for quite a while but left minimal lacing.
S: Sweet, malty Wheatmiser shines through with back up from a fantastic tart red wine and oaky barrel aroma.
T: See above. As it comes up to temp, an excellent mixture of vanilla, caramel, and (of course) red wine step out. Awesome!
M: Smooth with near perfect amount of oaky dryness that really helps cut back the standard Wheatmiser sweetness.
D: Absolutely worth making the drive down there to try this. Wonderful.

First of all can someone please tell me what a wheatmiser is? Google just pulls up GI and BA reviews...A super dark copper with clear amber notes, not much of a head...The aroma is awesome, dominated by sweetness. Sweet prunes on the fruit, then a nice barleywine bite of caramel, hops and wood, and the finish is sweet red wine. So complex, but balanced and really comes together...The taste is much of the same, a sweet barleywine, almost an unreal barleywine itself but accented by the great red wine barrel aging. Warm to drink but a little watery. Super easy to drink at 8.7.
Go to GI to just have this beer, its worth going out of you way, its that good.
