Dark brownish black, arcs of tan lacing and creamy head of foam.
Smooth roasty aroma, creamy coffee, light plum esters.
Roasty and smooth, lingering complex coffee roast, vague sweetness.
Medium bodied, very smooth. Overall a great porter.

This is a well put together porter. Very chocolate/mocha forward, with that bitter coffee and dark chocolate/ripe berry bite front and center and a vanilla note on the back end. Has a solid body which allows for the complexity of flavors to flourish. All too often this kind of porter can be let down with too thin a feel but Piece really brought it home. Good stuff.

for me a textbook example of the robust porter, and probably my favorite of the four beers i enjoyed here. its slick looking, shiny, short of black in color, and not overly heady, but very inviting. smells like dark chocolate, melted dark chocolate really, smooth semisweet. a bready ale yeast and a caramel malt middle seem to round out the aromas. a lot less sweetness in the taste than the smell, the chocolate is still there all the way through, but its more bitter for me this time. woody too, like wet bark or something, gives it nice round edges. there is also a decent hop kick to this, short lived, but above average for the style. i love the full bodied feel of this, still well carbonated, but elegant and big feeling at the same time. the alcohol is spot on for the style too, especially this time of year, and it finish quick enough to leave me wanting more in my mouth right away. an excellent cold weather beer, perhaps not as complex as some others out there, but i am left wishing for nothing at all to be different. well done all the way around.
