Holy SMACK this is a huge beer. A big beer with a lot of aroma and tons of flavor. You drink a Camel Toe and you KNOW you're drinking a Camel Toe.

This was my first beer at Piece in Chicago and was probably a lit much to start the meal out with, but it was delicious. Brilliant dark orangish-golden body. Full up in the nostrils. All over the tongue.

Again, being a big, higher ABV beer I rated the drinkability lower, but this is a beer I would definitely crave if it were accessible.

Wish I had time more time to spend here!
Served up in a stubby, not quite flared tulip-style glass.
Spotty lacing and light was low in the restaurant. Hoppy aroma with no dominating floral or citrus nose.
Mouthfeel-Hops-a-Kicking! Very nice citrus hop bomb! A good thick malt body balances it. The grapefruit pith lingers on the finish in a major way-good! Gotta be some Simcoe in there somewhere. Very impressed with this offering alone.

On tap at the brewery this brew pours a hazy orange color with a sticky tan head. Wonderful retention, this head sticks to everything it touches.

The nose is real simple... nothing but hops. Big bold citrus hops. A lovely smell and a great sign of a good beer to come.

Taste is a hop punch to the mouth. This one socks you right in the chops with great grapefruit and pine flavors. A subtle malt tries to peak through but never has a chance to compete with the hop juggernaut. A lovely astringency that is nice and prickly but not offensive or over aggressive. Wow what a great IPA.

Warm down your pipes, you can't taste the ABV but you sure can feel it. Mix that with a carbonation that is way short of belligerent and you have a nicely balanced big beer.

My girlfriend and I went to Piece Pizza and tried a number of beers. This was highly drinkable and delicous. High ABV. I loved this one to death. I highly recommend. Camels are my girlfriend and my love animal. I wish it were hops. She is a total hop hater. sigh...

From the notebook, June 2009....
On tap at the brewery.

Pours on dark amber with a rocky off-white head that leaves a nice coating of lace in the glass.

Citrus and hops in the nose.

Big and malty balanced with an equally big dose of pine and resin, very well balanced. Some alcohol. Nice bitter finish.

Great body and chewy mouthfeel.

Awesome beer.

on tap at the brewpub the weekend of the Cubs-Nat's series, reviewed from cell phone notes

funny anecdote: The waitress spilled an entire tulip of this on my buddy's lap prompting me to proclaim it was the only chance he had all weekend of getting some camel toe on his lap - but i digress

appearance: served in a tulip, bright apricot-orange body, sticky rings of white lace

smell: apricot and bright citrus, low levels of alcohol

taste: Egyptian pale ale's are a close 2nd to Mongolian pale ale's in my book. This was a tasty DIPA that focused on sweet sticky fruits - orange, apricot, light ruby-red. Syrupy malt backbone with a light bitterness

mouthfeel: sticky and syrupy

drinkability: good, given 8-9% abv

Poured a glowing amber in a 13 ounce tulip glass, although color may have been affected by the dim lighting in the brewpub. However, color of the beer was very strange indeed, almost artificial. Head development was a good 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch with fine lacing. Smell is full and hoppy, but with a nice fruit aroma weaving between the hop bouquet. Taste is simply excellent. Very hoppy with grapefruit and mango flavors as discussed in previous reviews. Very good balance throughout. Carbonation is moderate and overall character is slightly dry. Drinkability is excellent, but as with many Piece offerings, abv is very high (9% in this case) which limits one's consumption of this incredible brew.

Poured a dirty and hazy dark orange color with a thin yet sticky head.

The smell is spicy and herbal with a ginger with a touch of west coast hops.

The flavor is spicy and herbal just like the nose, light sweet bready malts finishing eith a mixture of minty bitter hops. A bit of a lingerrring alcohol.

The mouthfeel is thick and resiny.

Kind of a spicy mess, I could finish it, but wouldn't drink again.

First of all, well-done Piece...this is an impressive offering.

A 13oz. pour served in a tulip glass, with frothy, irregular foam. Nice concentric rings of sticky lace form on the glass as it is slowly emptied. Deep, tawny orange tone...pretty attractive.

Smell is resiny hop, sweet just a touch with citrusy fruit.

Taste is pure liquid hoppiness, sweet grapefruit, dry piney bitterness on the way out. Full syrupy mouthfeel coats the palate, but not to an unpleasant degree.

Glass disappeared all too soon, dangerously drinkable.

Poured from tap into a tulip at Piece. Pours a dark orange color with a foamy head

Very aromatic with lots of aromas of hops, pine resin, oranges and various citrus aromas. Very good depth on all of the aromas

Medium/full bodied with a very good and smooth feel. The flavors of hops, pine resin and oranges are slightly lacking in the middle

I'm always glad when this is back on tap. One of Piece's better brews. Dangerously you don't notice the alcohol on it, but it is a real balanced and good beer
