The Village Bistro is a comfortable little spot with red vinyl banquet seating along the west wall opposite the bar and music usually set up just as you enter on the right. It's got a tin ceiling and a copper-topped bar and wood floors.

They have 6 taps (when I last visited: Coney Island Geektoberfest, Warsteiner, Kostritzer, Left Hand Milk Stout, McSorley's, Blue Point Toasted) and 14 bottles (including both of the Full Sail Session beers and some Sixpoint cans). A lot of it's basic stuff, but at least there's no crap.

I didn't try the food, but I did see some music which was good.

One note, there was a sign that said "CASH ONLY", but the listings on YELP and MENUPAGES list them as accepting credit cards... I'm pretty sure it's cash only, and there's an ATM right next door at Joe's Pizza for a $2.50 fee.

Stopped in for a pint on christmas eve, prime Village location, large windows look out onto a world class street scene and what soon will be a new, nice looking park/plaza. Copper bar to right rear of this one , near square joint. About 12 tables for a romantic meal, didnt have time for a meal, but the menu looked extensive, casual and everything passing by me smelled great...6 selections on tap, 2 from Sierra D when I visited, moderate beer list include highlights of Omme. and Chimay. Nothing amazing beer wise, but nice location and athmosphere. Friendly bartender/manager and staff. Worth a visit if in the area.

Saw the previous review and stopped here for brunch and beers yesterday. According to our new best friends, Carla (the owner) and Joe (who was behind the bar) the taps are continually rotating. They were featuring Ithaca, Fisherman’s, O’Hara’s stout, Czech and German pilsners that were of high quality, and the Harpoon Winter Warmer, which they steered us away from as it was almost dead. They were expecting Double Diamond and a Six Point to be up next. Not a macro brew in the bunch, the beer was fresh and the taps themselves were clean.

The menu is of a size you would expect for a bistro and it is augmented by a healthy list of specials; the hollandaise was house made. The food was very good and quite reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and had knowledge of the beer bars of New York that they were more than happy to share.

We are looking forward to visiting often. The beer experience should be rewarding and different every time as they put thought into what they are serving and the relatively small number of taps will assure freshness. The staff is fun and the food is enjoyable and reasonable.

If you're in the West Village looking for beer, you most likely end up at the Blind Tiger on Hudson St. However, if you want to visit an undiscovered gem, you gotta check out the Greenwich Village Bistro just a few blocks away.

The Village Bistro is run by a husband and wife team, Richard and Carla. Richard is an architect who also helps run the bistro. Carla is more of the general manager of the bar and restaurant. Carla has developed an affinity for craft beer and keeps a regular rotation of quality microbrews.

Although there are only six taps, when I've been there, there was not one macro brew in the entire lot. She always keeps one obscure line, often does a Belgian line, and gives emphasis to local breweries as well.

Almost every single night they have a live music act and they draw pretty good crowds. The food is healthy and fresh, and they have plenty of outside seating.
