Wow. Easily the best beer store I have ever visited. I emailed Todd earlier in the week about Founders Breakfast Stout and he hunted down one of their last 4-packs and held it for me until the weekend. When I pulled up to the place I was a little skeptical but once you walk in it is like a damn candy store for a 7 year old. Todd was in and took the time to help me pick out some very random beers I otherwise would not have even noticed. I spent far more than I was planning on, but there is no store like his anywhere in Tennessee. Just a quick sampling:

Three Floyds
Dark Horse
Mikkeller
Don du Ciel (Peche Mortel)
Cantillon
Hoppin Frog
New Holland
Bluegrass Brewing
Stone
Founders
Nogne-O
And many many many more.

Also had alot of beers from small Inidana and Kentucky breweries/brewpubs which I always love to try out.

Todd and his employee (sorry! cant remember her name) were both incredibly friendly and helpful. They boxed up my purchases and helped me load them in the car. Todd then took the time to show me the new space next door that they are about to move into. Cant wait to see what he does with even more space.

This place is a certain cant miss if you are ever withing 100 miles of Louisville. I know I will be periodically making the three hour drive.

This is a fairly large store selling beer, wine, and liquor with a very large selection of beers available for sale. When I visited on a Friday afternoon, it was not too busy though there was a steady flow of customers but almost all of the customers were well known to the employees and beer geeks (or at least enthusiasts). There is a large/long aisle of shelving with beers on both sides, seemingly organized by brewery (and geography) along with the entire back wall of cooler cases of beer as well.

About half of the beer was available cold while the remainder was available on the shelves but seeing as there were very few windows (only in the door). Any beer that was not enclosed in a box was available for purchase in singles and once you got a 6-pack worth there was a discount to bring the price back to approximately what it would have cost to buy the 6-pack. As a first time beer shopper in IN, I was impressed with the large selection of in-state breweries but there was also a pretty good selection of other regional breweries.

The service was great - I first encountered the manager/owner who was really helpful and pointed out the spots in the store that I would want to check out for the more sought after beers and pointed out many new breweries (to me) that I might want to give a shake to... Very friendly, very helpful, and an all around nice guy.

Definitely a shop that I would like to stop by the next time I'm in the greater Louisville area.

Im a Louisville boy. Born and raised. I, like many other Kentuckians have always been of the opinion that the only reason to go to Indiana was for fireworks. That was before I found the Keg. Now there are two good reasons!

One of the best stores I have ever found for anything I have ever been interested in is the Keg. Not only are they stocked with more amazing craft and import brews than you can drink in a year (try it, I dare you), but the special releases they get in weekly are simply amazing. You BAs know how it is. There is a limited release and you go from store to store trying to find it. No store around Louisville or southern Indiana gets a consistent order of THE limited release of the week. Or month. Or year. EXCEPT the Keg. It never fails. Every week there is something Todd gets in that I am amazed by, be it a craft release from California or a Loon from Belgium. If youre looking for it, odds are he has it or is getting it. Most owners are content with just getting in whatever the vendors tell them is available, but Todd is a BA. He is into craft and you can tell. He makes sure that his store gets the releases you wont find at any other store. Every other store around Keg, be it to the east or west, can only try to be like Keg, but they never will be. Not to mention the fact that his staff is helpful, nice and knows what they are talking about. They know the product on the shelves, and most of them they have tried.

I honestly do not want to think about the countless limited releases I would have missed out on had it not been for the Keg being there. You owe it to yourself to stop by the store even if youre just passing through. We all know there are those shops that we frequent whenever we are visiting from another city. Go to the Keg once and this will be your stop for Louisville. I promise.
