This is a fun place, with a very long bar, and a great beer garden. In my opinion it's nothing special, but it has good selection. This is one of the few places that had King Sue on tap for a period of time.

If you haven't been back in a while or have never been it is worth the visit. Gone are the college cup nights, tough crowd atmosphere and stuff plastered all over the walls. They reinvented themselves quite a bit differently than the past 3-4 times it has been redone with pretty much the same model and added tap lines, put money into cleaning up the place and making the overall atmosphere much better. The food is surprisingly good with mostly a bar food menu but with quite a few twists and different food options. The beer options are great, putting them up there with one of the best selections in town and changed regularly. Service has been more hit than miss but still do encounter a less than knowledgeable server. They welcome feedback and actually do appear to attempt to make changes based on feedback. Definitely I place I plan to visit often. Right now the only minus is parking since the lot next door is being turned into a parking garage.

Definitely worth a stop. They changed owners back in November, and have been making big strides in becoming a beer bar.
The atmosphere is relaxed and service for the most part is great.

A nice change having a bartender actually know what they are serving not just putting it in front of you and asking for payment. They have 36 beers on tap that change weekly I'm told.

Food was surprisingly good, I had their thin crust fire-starter pizza. Cracker thin crust and some spicy toppings worked for me.

Absolutely not a beer bar.

Stopped in one night since it was the only place that was open in downtown Cedar Rapids. The whole downtown area was creepy, something out of a nightmare. It had dried out, the floods had been over for months, and everything looked more or less clean and more or less without any damage. But everything was also empty. Vacant buildings are always a little creepy, but these places were so clean and brihgtly lit that it was just terrifying.

Anyhow, I came across Bricks and I got a little excited since I remebered seeing it listed on beerfly. Inside, it was just a loud bar, expensive bar andgrill filled with horrible music, subpar food, annoying 30somethings, and absolutely no good beer. Seriously, the best offering was Leinenkugel's.

I feel really bad for Cedar Rapids. The city is still is bad shape, months after Des Moines, Iowa City, and the Cedar Valley have gotten back on their feet. Still, pity isn't enough to give this place a good score, or to suggest that any place in all of Cedar Rapids is worth stopping at if you're hunting for good beer.

02 /15/07 I was back in Cedar Rapids for work and took a customer and co-worker to the Brick. Boy has a few months made a difference! They have a new owner and they seem to be de-emphasizing good beers.

Fist thing, they have removed all the Belgium’s. Second, they have done away with their beer list. Thirdly, they have dumbed downed the tap selection. The only semi-decent beers left are Boulevard Wheat, Smithwicks, New Castle & Guinness.

The still have the Rouge bottles, but I get the idea that these may be short lived.

The upside is that they now have some really good food specials (all the wings you can eat on Thursday for $3.00!).

Due to the above, I'm lowering the selection score from 4 to 3.5

I was in Cedar Rapids for work and thanks to Beer Fly, I at least had a plan.

The Brick has is a long narrow space with the bar on the east side. It has a nice high ceiling. I’m guessing the bar seats about 16 with table seating for about 40to 50 more. I like those long narrow tables, as they are great to share.

They have a cool exposed brick wall with some typical "old artifacts" displayed. You’ve seen these before, old Pepsi signs, carousel horses, Lucky Strike ads, etc. It’s straight out of bar decorating 101.

They have decent bar food; my patty melt and Cajun fries hit the spot.

Cheesy radio station provides background noise. Subdued but friendly crowd. Slow but friendly service.

They have 18 taps most are macros with Guinness, Lenies (both the Berry and Honey Weiss??), Sam Adams cherry, Blvd wheat, Bass, New Castle, Killians and Blue Moon.

27 domestic bottles 2/3rds are decent. They have 7 22oz Rouges to choose from plus selections from Bvd, Breckenridge, Capitol, Left Hand, etc.

27 imports St Peters porter, Young’s Dirty Dick and Long Leg among the notables. Strangely Sierra Nevada and Mickeys listed in imports...

In addition they offer 12 Belgians including Rochefort 6 8 10, 4 selections from Petrus and 2 Westmalles.

This place was well worth a stop. I don’t think you will find any better options in Cedar Rapids.

The main attraction to me and this bar is the fact that it is one block away from the Crowne Plaza Hotel. A nice long bar with about 20 table/boothes on the west side and a 20 or so stool bar along the east side. Lots of retro flair on the walls. All the beer was fresh enough...service was suspect with two bartenders taking care of the whole place (tables and all). Around 15 taps, dominated by macros or macro distributed pulls, but a rather nice bottle selection including several Rogue bombers, which are nice to see. The food is decent with deep-dish style pizza as well as burgers and typical pub-style meals. The prices on the beer were decent to a bit pricey....over $7 for a bomber of Rogue....and around $3.50 for pint pulls. Decent if you are in downtown Cedar Rapids...Oh and by the way this town is a shit-hole.

This bar is very typical of the kind you find on college campuses all over the country, only clean and well-kept. It is fairly dim, and a well-dressed, older end of 20-something crowd seems to be the majority of business. Lots of sports paraphanalia and other assorted junk hangs off the walls and climbs up to the second level, where there is a balcony, a second bar, and a foosball table or two. There is one of those super-computer jukeboxes that can like read your thoughts, but of course, all it played was Dave Mathews for the first hour I was there. This is a smoking establishment.

All we got was beer, but it was fresh. There are about 15 taps but nothing you couldn't find at a grocery store or in bottles elsewhere. There is a good bottle selection in cluding lots of local micros, a handful of Rouge bombers, a few imports I hadn't heard of, and an impressive range of Belgians. There was no price on the Belgians, but everything else was really reasonable. Service was great. This is probably one of the better beer spots in Cedar Rapids.

An interesting bar right in downtown Cedar Rapids. Looks like a total dump from the back and the side but is fairly nice once you get inside. There is a 2nd floor loft inside and they have bands periodically.

In the last few months they have expanded to having a large number of bottles -- approx 101 with a nice selection of micros from CA, CO, WI, IN, MN. Rogue 22 oz bombers, Capital, Three Floyds, August Schell, Great Divide, Left Hand, Gray's, Stevens Point, Bert Grants to name a few. Many beers that are not available back East. I heard that there is some kind of partnership with the distributor to have all of these available.

The number of micros on tap has seemed to decline a bit but they do have some Boulevard taps.

Service is very hit or miss and they certainly favor the locals... I found one bartender (the only guy) to be the exception to the rule. Maybe I just wasn't cute enough for the ladies...

Food is fairly good for bar food and the nightly specials are very reasonable...

Worth checking out when in the area and right across forom the 5 Seasons hotel so having beers for carryout is not cheap but a definite a plus !
