Enjoyed by me on-tap at the brewery a two weeks ago. Reviewed from notes. Served to me in a pint glass. This beer is a medium to dark brown color with amber highlights. The off-white head is about 1/3 inch thick when served to me and settles to a decent surface layer and a nice thick ring lining the inside of my glass. Nice lacing here too. Aromas of roasted malt, caramel and chocolate. The taste is the same, Sweet, slightly roasted malt, a bit of caramel and mildly sweet chocolate. Very tasty indeed! Has a crisp, smooth, slightly frothy, full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a smooth, clean finish. You can't taste the 11.7% ABV at all, it is extremely well masked. Easy to drink.

From notes provided at bar:
Rich, malty and medium dark German lager with light hop bitterness and medium body, we added 20 lbs. of pure dark chocolate to the boil then allowed this Dunkel to ferment to double strength. 11.7% ABV 12 IBU's

Served from tap at Willoughby Brewing Company a few hours ago. Poured into clear pint glass.

A Deep brown but not black or translucent. Very little light came through the pint glass.

S Earth sweetness that I initially attributed to "chocolate" since I was expecting that but it was not an overpowering chocolate smell at all. It was actually inviting and pleasant.

T Very interesting with a myriad of tastes exploring my palatte. Sweetness, bitterness, maltiness. Very interesting indeed.

M Surpisingly light mouthfeel considering that it is most certainly a "dark" beer. This is not a negative at all.

D Would have garnered highest marks if not for high alcohol content and heavy, challenging taste. This is a session beer imo.

Notes: A successful attempt at something new from the brewers at Willoughby Brewing Company.
