This time of year demands a bold flavor. Green Man’s beloved stout delivers. An impressive blend of roasted black and chocolate malts creates an opaque color and alluring depth. A distinctive blend of hops allows the balanced flavor to shine. The Forester personifies a trustworthy companion for winter’s unpredictable darkness.

A: Pours an opaque but clear black in color with light to moderate amounts of gentle carbonation along the edges of the glass and some cola brown + dark amber highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy light tan head that reduces to a large patch of very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted dark malts with some slight hints of charred malts and just a touch of smoked malts.
T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of roasted dark malts with just a hint of anise/licorice. There are some very light notes of charred malts and hints of earthy malts. Moderate amounts of bitterness which linger through the finish.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Hints of dryness and alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Another very enjoyable beer from Green Man...not that I should be surprised as I have enjoyed just about everything I have tried from this brewery. A really nice winter beer and could easily stand up to a cold winter night (probably best enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace being sipped slowly).

Pours a very dark black with hardly any light passing through. Dark caramel head that goes away quickly. Has a very roasty malt smell. Tastes like how it smells.

Dark, traditional stout with a nice tan head. Nice roasted malt aroma. Clean scent with some char. Nice char and roasted malt flavor with a bit of sweetness and a great bitter finish. It is a really nice beer that simple is good.

Forester pours to a slightly rocky medium tan head on an effervescent brown body shot through with ruby highlights; head retention is brief, but lacing is excellent, consisting of bands and cavelets. The nose is light-medium in intensity, and is predominately peaty smoke, with more subtle cocoa, the slightest hint of toffee and slight alcohol overtones. The palate is a medium-bitter, thinnish smoky baker's-chocolate-and-cola flavor with a hint of molasses on the back end. The finish is a medium hit of bitter chocolate, and is fairly dry; the linger is a thinnish, medium-bitter chocolate flavor that lasts awhile. Mouthfeel is commensurate with the medium-full body and is very slightly astringent; the texture is slightly creamy and medium-peppery from the well-expressed carbonation. Appearance: black in color with a 1" tan colored hear that falls to a thick surface covering.
Smell: light roasted malt aroma is all that is detectable.
Taste: roasted malt, dark chocolate, a hint of coffee, and some dark fruit sweetness is balanced with a nice bitterness.
Mouthfeel: medium-heavy bodied beer. Lightly crisp to start, smoother at the finish. Long lasting roasted tones stick to the tongue.
Overall: a very enjoyable and easy drinking stout.
