Pours a deep dark chcolate brown with a thinner but lacey beige colored head atop.Aromas of dark fruit and vanilla stand out with a big shot of boubon booze, faint chocolate is detected as well.Alot going on the palate, toasty with vanilla notes mixed with brown sugar and dark fruit, not alot of chocolate or roast although the former is there.A sipper,it seems even bigger than what it is,a big price tage but a nice find.

Poured from the bottle, into a large snifter glass.

Deep black walnut body, not a spec of light getting through this thick opaque body. Head is a little over a finger, surprisingly light tan with a creamy body but not much staying power. Settles to a thick collar though, big and bubbled, but with a little mix of whispy top, and big bubbled head. Decent.

Big impressive aroma. Large barrel notes of caramel and sweet oak. Spicy toasty notes match with a big rounded sweetness of vanilla. Clean, thick but not overboard. Airy and dried with great accenting balance of wood and dry brown spices. Subtle but also large hint of what seems to be coming. Real big fantastic bouquet.

The palate though comes off slightly simpler, but also just as basic but getting every note and feel perfectly. Creamy, thick and roasty rich with mid palate that lingers with huge dark chocolate notes, a little bit of hop bitterness, and a great vanilla rich sweetness but cut with a hint of bitterness in mixed char and green herbal hop notes. The aroma hints at the palate wonderfully, but just with a more subtle easier take on the senses. No fruit, no big booze, no large sweetness, but great woody notes and mixing char, soft roast, and a playful hop twinge on the end.

Fantastic barrel aged example of an imperial stout, and a unique one at that. Delicious.

750mL bottle from Bruisin Ales (Asheville, NC). 21.99. I picked this up in early May and believe this is the 2015 release but there is no bottling date. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours black with a three finger pillar of deep tan head. The froth slowly shrinks back to a thin veneer of surface haze and a full halo, leaving a few substantial patches of lace.

Smells of semi sour prunes, faint bourbon, soft chocolate, oaken vanilla, creamed coffee and slightly burnt caramel. It's ok but a little more tame in the barrel department than expected.

The bourbon is much more subtle in the flavor than anticipated. Dark chocolate, heavily roasted malt, faintly souring fruit, soft bourbon, creamed coffee, wet wood, caramel, dark fruit skins and a slight burn of alcohol. Between some slight oxidation, the semi sour dark fruit skins and earthy oak I get the feeling that this might be on the verge of turning.

Creamy, medium full body with moderately light carbonation. More souring dark fruit is the dominant note in the aftertaste along with some chocolate, caramel and very mild bourbon.

I'm not sure if Demon Dweller only spent a short amount of time in bourbon barrels or perhaps the barrels were second use but the barrel notes are more faint than typical. Add in the fact that the barrel seems to be slowly infecting the beer rather than complementing or improving and this is rather a disappointment- particularly given how much they charge. After three overpriced, under flavored bottles from Green Man I think I'm done. They might have just been enrolled in the no-buy club along with Rogue.

Batch 2 is much better than batch 1. I highly recommend this!

2015 vintage. Poured from a bomber into a snifter, the beer is jet black, thick on the pour, with a healthy, foamy, clingy, tan colored head. Aromas of vanilla, molasses, brown sugar, oak, rich caramel, chocolate, bitter coffee, tangy crème, woody notes, and earthy undertones. Flavors are rich vanilla, caramel, and chocolate forward, with a subtle mocha coffee backbone, some boozy highlights, and wood spices. The barrel imparts enough earth and spice to rough up all the rich sweetness and strike a good amount of balance. The body is full and smooth, with a subtle weight to it, as well as a building warmth that accompanies the rich chocolate, molasses, and vanilla aftertaste. The finish is velvety smooth and layered, with a subtle cloying to all the richness, and a linger to the molasses and vanilla. This is a very big, very balanced, very good beer. I can't wait to see how it ages.
