Green Man India Pale AleGreen Man India Pale Ale

Brewed by:
Green Man Brewery
North Carolina, United States

Style: English India Pale Ale (IPA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Green Man India Pale Ale is delectably hoppy with a properly balanced body. Generous hop additions give it a wonderful bitterness and pleasant floral nose, while our combination of traditional British malts creates a rich, satisfying flavor and alluring copper color. This authentic English-style IPA is our flagship ale.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy dark copper with just a thin white head. Decent lacing, however, and a thin off-white cap on top of the beer.

Aroma is very earthy with plenty of hints of toast and caramel. Some pine and overripe orange as well. Pretty good.

The flavor has more of the piney earthiness expected from an English IPA. Nothing tropical at all about this. Just the slightest hint of fruit but it is more of the overripe variety. Bitterness is moderate to high but not too excessive. Lingering bitterness in the finish with a slight sweetness.

Overall, this is a good, albeit fairly run of the mill, English IPA. Nice earthiness from the hops but lacks a bit of the maltiness complexity found in other examples. All in all a good beer.

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

Mildly hazed deep amber color, two fingers of head stays around for a while. Floral herbal hop nose with toasted bread and some fallen apples, great aroma. Smooth and creamy with a hearty medium body. Hints of caramel and toasted bread from the malt, prickly zesty hop bitterness is assertive on the palate. Herbal woody tones with some light floral and citrus flavors from the hops. Balance but clearly hop forward. A great rendition of the style, American in size for sure.

A friend picked up a growler while over in A-ville and shared with me yesterday.Poured into a standard pint glass a clear copper with a tight 1/2 finger slight off white head,English IPA aromas more leafy with a hefty dose of biscuit malt.Slightly grainy mouthfeel,English character on the palate as well a hefty lightly sweet biscuit malt flavor dominates up front than it melds into a leafy somewhat herbal/minty hop finish. If your a big fan of the more subtle English variety IPA youll like this alot, for me it was ok.

On tap at 12 Bones barbeque joint in Asheville. The brew arrives as a mildly hazed copper amber with a small offwhite head. Nice sticky lacing is left on the glass. Aroma opens with pink grapefruit, quickly seguing into herbal and grassy hops with a hint of toasty caramel. Smooth and well balanced, with a medium body. Taste has a floral, grassy, and herbal hops bitterness that is balanced very well by a subdued toasty and caramel biscuity maltiness. Supremely well balanced even though the hops run the show. Wow! This one is a pleasant surprise. Very enjoyable, and ideal with the blueberry chipotle sauced rack of ribs.

L: Pours bright reddish Amber rousing a 1” white to off-white foam cap with moderate persistence. S:Earthy, dank vegetal aromas with traces of resin, citrus and mint. T: Earthy, woody hops, mineral, light fruit, traces of tropical fruit. Hop forward but well balanced by the malt. Malt medium low, medium bitterness, medium hop flavors. Lingering bitterness with a dry finish. F: Very creamy. Medium to medium low body, medium to medium low carbonation. O: A very good English style IPA.

Picked up a growler at Bruisin' Ales. I was planning on saving this until a few more people could help me finish but a precariously placed growler and a big dog put an end to that, I'm just glad the whole growler didn't shatter.

Pours a very nice and slightly hazy copper color with a half-finger off-white head. The head dissipates into a scaly layer of bubbles on top leaving decent lacing.

Smell of sweet caramel malts with hints of earthy, bitter hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells. The malt flavor is a bit more biscuit-like than the smell led me to believe, but the same earthy hops are there, ending with a solid bitterness.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a good thickness with a good amount of a carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I had a few glasses last night, and will probably finish the growler without much problem tonight.

Overall this is a solid English IPA, though it's nothing special. Very drinkable, and worth a shot if you're in the area.

Pours a rather clear orange color. Soft, off- white head with mild retention and good lacing.
Smells of English malts. Nutty, bready, crusty bread. Also pick up the earthy, Noble hops.
Taste follows nose. A hint of spicy hops as well.
Feel is close to medium-bodied. Finish is spicy.
Overall, this is a good IPA of the English variety.
