Another day up in Asheville, and it was HOT! The only thing to keep you cool was several trips around
to the local watering holes. Consumed on tap on 07/06/2010.

Have not been in green man in a long time, but rich dragged me in and I obliged. Looking at the engine
I went right for the pale. Wonderfully cloudy pour with a small head on top that sit just about right
with me.

Aroma is light, nice punch of pineapple and orange, really just wonderfully balanced heather and
grassy notes that really just completed this for me. As I take the first sip, smooth, creamy, the
wonderful hops just roll across the tongue with the greatest of ease. I was blown away by just how
smooth this one was. Each sip got lighter and lighter until all that was left was a nice dry
aftertaste of orange and light grass.

Overall a superb pale and the cask just added to it. I would love to have this one again and see
myself going back up to Asheville very, very soon.

Served on-tap at City Beverage in Winston-Salem, NC

A: Pours a lightly hazy medium copper in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation as well as some orange and amber highlights. The beer has a finger tall light beige head that redues to a thin film covering the surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of pale malts with moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit/orange and spicy hops.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of pale malts which are followed by moderate flavors of citrus/orange, spicy, and grassy hops. Light amounts of bitterness in the finish that slowly fade away but are not aggressive.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish.

O: Easy to drink and very enjoyable - quite refreshing. Definitely a beer that I was impressed with and I would have again.

It's not 6.10% ABV, but rather 4.9. Also, it's not an American Pale Ale, but a classic English style. From their website:
" An English pale ale, bright gold in color with an assertive hop character. With English yeast, European barley malt and American hops (Centennial and Cascade), this hybrid ale reflects the best from three continents."
Just to set the record straight....

Now on to the rating:

The third time was the charm for me at the Jack of the Wood -- I sampled 3 of their draughts, and this, my third, was the "jackpot" (so to speak).

Appearance: Cloudy, reminiscent of a dark Hoegaarden, somewhat strawy.

Nose: Subtle, but solid.

Taste: This one was damn sexy. Grainy, hoppy, a nice bitter note with some snappiness to it, and a twist of apricot. Quality "English understatement" that I adore. I give this one an A+ in the flavor department.

Palate: Perfect.

Overall: Wonderful. A tremendous session beer.

The beer arrived on the bar hazy pale amber with an off white low frothy head which laced the glass from top to bottom.

The aroma was lightly citrusy and grassy with a strong hop presence and a light caramel aspect. The citrus flavor was primarily grapefruit.

The flavor was lightly fruity with grapefruit and citrus and a light malt presence. The hops were earthy and grassy and the flavor was lightly filled with caramel and a light spicy hop charcter.

The finish was dry yet earthy with a light citrusy bittering and flavor lasting long into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a low carbonation. This was a darn nice pale ale, mostly American in hops but with an English flare. A great beer!

Pint at Dirty Jacks, 6.1% ABV.

Poured in a plastic cup for Bele Chere. Sigh.

1/2 finger head with very little retention. No lacing on my dixie cup.

Very light citrus nose. Not a lot going on here, but what it has is pleasant.

Light pine flavor. Mildy hoppy and even slighty woody. Wasn't expecting the last part, but added a nice complexity to the flavor. Excellent malt balance against the hops.

Just the right creaminess for a pale.

Easy session drinker.

Got a sample from my distributor and was impressed. The color is a hazy copper. One finger head with no lacing on the glass. The nose had spice, hops, and orange. Quite nice. The taste follows the nose. The bitterness is well balanced with the other elements of the taste. Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. My first beer from this Brewery and one that I would recommend.

(Listed as 5.5% when I visited the brewery).

Appearance: Clear, light copper body with a small white head.

Smell: Light pale maltiness to the aroma with faint notes of citrus and spicy hops.

Taste: Mild pale malt presence with a subtle sweetness. Flash of fruitiness. Light spicy hop character. Subdued hop bitterness. Bittersweet finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Alright for a pale!
