This is a smooth, easy drinking porter. I was visiting NC and decided to tote some of this home.....it was worth it.

A rich, velvety, chocolate brown behind a Harp logo on a nonic glass. The dark khaki foam that reaches one-half inch lasts for a few minutes before leaving no lace.

Milk chocolate and coffee greet the nose, followed by light roasted malt and nuances of hazelnut.

The flavor is sweet up front but quickly displaced by bitterness, both of which are mild. Sweet milk chocolate and roasted malt are followed by mixed nuts. A long, mild finish brings back the sweetness and lingers. All these flavors open up with warmth.

The body is medium on entry, then becomes fuller. Alcohol is as expected and the texture is slick like nylon. There is a fine fizzy carbonation and mild astringency.

This beer works well after a long day. It is tasty and interesting, yet subdued enough to leave room for conversation. One might also find it works well as a dessert beer.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Cigar City snifter glass.

A: Dark brown, nearly opaque, with a thin tan head. The cap gives way quickly despite a good amount of bubbles running up the sides of the glass.

S: At least at refrigerator temperature, the aroma is quite low. Faint roasty chocolate malts…and that’s about it. Not much going on here, even when it warms up.

T: Roasted malts with some chocolate up front. There’s a touch of metallic flavor in the middle that shouldn't be there, along with a bit of Skoal tobacco. Roast bitterness balances nearer to the end, along with some grassy noble hops. More chocolate flavors recur at the swallow.

M: Body is average to slightly thin. Good carbonation, and low alcohol presence.

O: This is something I'd drink on tap if a porter sounded good at a restaurant that didn’t have a large selection. But I wouldn't seek it out, and it's likely there's a local porter just as good if not better on your shelves (or taps) already.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a dark brown to black color with a small tan head. The aroma is roasted malt with some chocolate and a bit of coffee. The taste matches the nose. An outstanding porter.

Dark chocolate body, with a very thin ring of head that fades to a moss on top.

Lots of rich decadent chocolate on the nose, with some roast malts complimenting. Light molasses, licorice, and coffee faintly trailing.

Tons of great licorice and dark roast malts, supplemented with molasses, dark chocolate, and mild coffee.

On the mouth, there's a lot of carbonation with a heavily roasted feel.

Green Man Porter is extremely tasty and has tons of great anise and molasses notes which I am a fan of. Will hopefully be trading for more :-)
