12oz bottle into a pint glass
no bottling dates

A: Opaque black with some browning on the edges when held to light, 1plus fingers width of tan colored head, dissipates down fairly quickly and leaves only a few small patches of lacing. 4

S: Lots of chocolate, roasted malt, some oaky herbaceous notes. 3.75

T: Roasty, leather and tobacco, semi sweet cocoa on the finish, subtle herbaceous oaky characters. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a regular porter with so much leather and tobacco characters; and I like it. 4.25

M/D: Full bodied, carbonation appropriate, a very nice creamy smoothness, drinkability is good. 4.25

O: A very nice porter, no where near on the same level as the Green Man’s BA Imperial Porter, but an enjoyable beer nonetheless. 4

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown color and a thick texture. There was a small amount of foamy, tan-colored head that quickly dissipated. No real lacing to speak of.

S: A very subtle aroma of chocolate, malt, and coffee.

T: Tasted of cocoa, roasted malt, light coffee notes, and a hint of hops. A decent enough flavor, but it never grabs hold you. The cocoa element was nice, but there could've been more of it.

M: A below average amount of carbonation with a creamy, smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: While this isn't a bad porter, it's not one that jumps out you. Nonetheless, it has some likable qualities.

On tap at Stone Ridge Tavern in Asheville, NC. Very dark ruby-brown/black with a moderate tan head. Initial impresssion is burnt malts, coffee, and cocoa. Hops are not evident at all. Medium mouthfeel - a little light for a porter. Not bad - I'd probably have again.

12oz bottle poured out for samples

A — Pours a nice deep rich brown hue into the glass, there is a light coffee colored head that forms and leaves behind some OK spotty lacing.

S — Smell is light and quite fruity, though it is balanced with some nice light roasted malt character, still quite light for the style and the English ale yeast really comes to the forefront.

T — Taste is light and slightly roasted, notes of chestnut, cocoa powder, and a bit of berry, and light yeasty esters.

M — Medium bodied, easy drinking and smooth.

O — Nice overall, somewhat monotone and the yeast strain really comes through.

Solid porter. Pours dark brown, small head, good lacing, chocolaty flavor. Rich malty, roasty taste with only slight hops bitterness. Will definitely have more of these.

Appearance: Very dark, opaque brown-ruby — almost black. A little tan suds and thin lace.

Aroma: Chocolate, roasty malts, a hint of coffee. Exemplary.

Taste: Bittersweet cocoa/chocolate, burnt malts, smooth iced coffee. In fact, smooth is the operative word here, as this porter is easygoing, faithful to style, and so very drinkable. A delicious and well-done porter!
