One of four experimental beers served at Dirty Jacks, Asheville, NC on 11/27/09.

A - Reddish brown, copper-tinged body with a dark yet minimal head that yielded a sparse amount of lace around the glass.

S - Light smoked malt and mild peppery notes comprise the initial aroma. Hints of peat, wood and slight caramel and toffee notes also emerge as it warmed up. However, hop character is faint at best.

T - Moderate smoked peat malt flavor with hints of peppery, oily spiciness. However, the flavors are very mellow, giving the beer a subtly complex character that incorporates smokey, spicy and earthy notes.

M - Medium bodied with a syrupy texture and a slight oily slickness on the palate. Bitterness is minimal.

D - Another bold experimental beer that was very unique and quite enjoyable. More complex than the other three brews I had that night.

One of the 4 Experimental Winter Warmers offer at Dirty Jacks on Black Friday. Made with applewood smoked malt and Ancho chilies.

A-Bright,dark copper with a thin white head that left spotty lace.

S-Light smokiness with a mild peppery zing and an underlying leathery dryness.

T-Mildly sweet and jaunty fruity malt base with a building spicy, but never hot, peppery zing with a nice drying finish. Underlying smoke is a pleasant accent and not the star of this brew.

M-Medium-light bodied, fairly crisp, with a nice lingering spiciness and astringent leathery dryness.

D-This one started rather ho-hum but the more I drank and the warmer it got the more I liked it. The spice, smoke and malt base all work very nicely in concert with each other...well done!
