Pours solid black with a towering light-brown head.
Nose shows lots of dark and milk chocolate with some caramel chucked in there as well.
Flavours are not as complex or interesting, but still show loads of roasted malt with faint hints of chocolate. Unfortunately there's an off-putting tangy taste in there, like green apples.
Too highly carbonated for a porter.

Bottle has a cartoony image of Ned Kelly on the front, describes the style as a "robust porter", says a little of the origins of the style and jokes that "rumour has it that Ned himself was a porter man". I'm entertained already.

As to the beer itself, it pours black, completely opaque, with a moderate light brown head that produces good lacing. Roasted aromas of milk chocolate and coffee are fairly restrained, a few dried fruit notes. The dried fruit is more prominant on tasting, with a bitter finish in which the roasted flavours emerge. Slight carbonation, maybe could do with a bit more.

Overall this pretty subdued. It makes a good easy drinking beer, but I'm left wanting somewhat more. I think I'll get more than just the one bottle next time...

A: Tiny hiss on opening suggesting low carbonation. Pours cola colour with no head. Swirl brings a tan head that doesn't stick around. Bottle conditioned.
S: Coffee with hints of dates. Earthy dark roast malt. No hop aroma.
T: Super rich roasted coffee. A little dark chocolate and caramel. Dry roast malt finish.
M: Medium body. Very low carbonation.
O: Nice beer. I haven't had any other Robust Porter so difficult to compair.

Nearly pitch black with a dark tan foamy head. As dark as any porter I've had before. Certainly looks robust.

Smell dominated by those dark malts. Roasty, charred and a touch of caramel sweetness.

An earthy hoppiness combines with the drying dark malt. This certainly straddles the blurred line between porter and stout if it does not cross it. The bottle recommends pairing with chocolate and this works well. The sweetness of the chocolate gets cleaned up nicely by the dry charred character of the beer.

Had in my mind this was much higher in abv. Quite an enjoyable porter as it is. And it wont knock you to the floor after a couple.

Dark brown with an amber tinge when held to the light. Topped with a half finger of beige head.

Smells of coffee, molasses and toffee.

The taste is of caramel, taffee and coffee. Hints of chocolate as well.

Medium to light body with moderate carbonation.

Drinking this in Chiang Mai, June 14th, 2018. Well done porter.

This poured a pitch black colour and a generous finger of head.

Some chocolate on the nose.

The chocolate continued through to the palate but didn't really amount to much. There was a nice drying bitter finish though.

I found this to be a bit thin for a porter.

330 ML poured into a tulip

A-- Poured a dark brown cola color. Settled black. Half finger of light brown head, on swirling got maybe one finger. Wanted to stick around the half finger and film area.

S-- Sweet, smoky, a little bit of peat, and get some of the hops. Slowly chocolate and coffee make appearances in the smell but the wood sets it off. Really a nice nose for this beer.

T-- A little acidic lemon start and then coffee and chocolate kick in. Get the hops at first but they drop off quickly.

M-- Coffee taste is very clean and not big at all. Chocolate is smooth. Just little hints of sweetness in the mouth. Pretty clean beer and finishes smooth. Just a little coffee linger along with some lemon but more a smooth, roasted coffee flavor. No gaps of thinness or watery at all. Pretty well rounded. Medium carbonation and feel.

D-- After two I think I might get bored with this. Good, solid beer but nothing after the smell that makes me jump up and down wanting a lot more. Still could have 3 easily due to the low ABV at 5.2%.

A: Pours a deep mahogany color with a nice full head that fades slowly to good lacing.

S: Aroma of roasted malt with a bit of roasted nuts, coffee and chocolate mixed in.

T: Taste of roasted malt, bit of caramel sweetness with some chocolate, coffee and bit of roasted nuts. Nice bitterness and a dry finish.

F: Fairly full body, smooth and creamy with a nice balance.

O: Very enjoyable beer that has a bit of character. Nice offering from the brewer.

AKA Robust Porter

Deep brown going on black in colour, it has a huge off white head that persists.

Ultra roast aromas dominate the nose, with some burnt toffee and some raw grain notes. Nice.

Dark fruits and chocolate on the palate lead into a moderately bitter finish. Plenty of cocoa, roasted barley and perhaps even some coffee grinds.

Well balanced, some nice milky sweetness is offset well but the bitterness and roasty flavours. Overly carbonated for the style, which is the biggest downfall.

Not a bad drop. Check it!

Pours very dark, almost pitch-black colour with a very large frothy head, mocha in hue, that dissipates quite comprehensively, leaving a thin crown. Lacing is OK, fairly lacklustre. Overall a decent looker.

Dark, heavy-roasted coffee character on the nose, some bitter cocoa-heavy chocolate, but a very grainy, oatmeal character as well. Slight dark tart cherry as well. Fairly predictable, nothing cruel or unusual, but nice.

Taste is again dark, very drying, bitter roastedness on the back, front is a bit disappointing, with nothing much except a tart hit of cherry and red grape skin. Very toasted back, great hit of espresso and a lot of burnt toast. It's quite a robust, bitter finish, slightly sour, quite manly but also a bit simple for its strength, not too much nuance to it.

Mouthfeel has a bit of a tingle to it but is quite thin. The slight grittiness on the back is a bit of a turnoff, but otherwise this is a reasonable drinker. And they have my blessing to call it a 'robust' porter, I don't think it's just marketing.

Dark reddish black colour, not very opaque, but very dark. Head is an amazing rocky adventure of tan bubbles. Lacing is excellent. What an excellent looking beer.

Quite amazingly robust and powerful black roasted almost smoky nose. Very dark. Often I find some sweetness on the nose, and ashiness on the palate - but this has no sweetness here. If this is any indication, this will be one black dark and crazy beer.

Lots of roasted grainy flavours, not quite as dark as I'd have thought. The deep roasted notes are rich like deep brown toast. Very pleasant and pleasantly surprising. Mouthfeel is a little thin. A slight on an otherwise very pleasant beer.

Yeah. Nice. Roasty, but not too extreme. Plenty of character, and pretty easy to drink.

No visible BB date - from Warners.

Pours black n atn. One finger head dies faster than usual for a Porter. Leaves film. Little lace.

Muted aromas of chocolate, roast malts (burnt even) and some nuttiness. Coffee later.

Taste is as aromas but watered down. Some roast burnt bitterness, but overall watery and thin.

Light carbonation. Ok. Medium to light bodied.

Not sure if I have been spolit bu high ABV porters recently, but his doe not hold my attention - too watery is main complaint.

Soft caramel and roast; very friendly and approachable. As good as any Oz porter getting around at the minute. Very dark brown tending to black. The very thin, dark, creamy head gives a distinct mochiato look....very appealing. Nose is sweet, milk shake like with the malt aromas. Reasonably thick palate with more chocolate powder notes, and I certainty didn’t find the roast notes as overt as some previous tasting notes. Finishes clean with late bitterness.

Dark brown body with a lightly tanned head. Burnt malts and caramel coffee dominate the aroma some hops are smelt however.

Surprisingly flavorsome for the ABV. Strong burnt wood and coffee notes. Hints of caramel. A light bitterness from the hops and some sour bitterness from the burnt malts.

Creamy mouth feel and good robust carbonation

Poured jet black. Thin head with quite a lot of carbonation.
Sweet chocolate and burnt caramel on the nose. Lots of toasted malts
Vanilla, roasted malts with some nuttiness and hints of bitterness on the finish. Very smooth
A bit thin and light in the body with prickly carbonation. Would have liked a creamier texture with less carbonation

Overall a really nice porter.

This has been re-named Robust Porter like it should have been called from the start.

A - Poured black with a big, fluffy beige head. Big patchy lacing.
S - Roasted barley, mild chocolate malt. Some slight fruity esters.
T - Choclate malt goodness. Some faint grassy hop notes come through as well.
M - Quite a full mouthfeel, chocolate flavour lingers.
D - My favourite Australian porter right now. A couple of these to end the night in winter is great.

I had a 330ml bottle. This beer won a bronze medal at the 2014 CBIA Craft Beer Awards in class 3B Robust Porter.
Appearance: deep dark and black. Fantastic colour. Good head on the beer like a good dark chocolate milkshake. Does not last long but adequate time.
Aroma: rich toasted malts on the nose some light coffee presence but not overwhelming. Could have been better.
Flavour: surprisingly has a more carbonated mouthfeel than expected hence looses a bit of creaminess I might expect. Flavours a very nice with roasted malts well balanced with the mild bitterness and very easy drinking. Reasonable coffee flavours coming through to me.
Overall : good example and nice beer.
