Visited on 1/9/2009. I've been wanting to hit this place for years, but didn't want to do the drive. Now that I work in Newport, it's just a slight deviation from the way home. I was greeted at the front door with a mouthwatering smell of fried food. Interior is split in half. The left side being the dining room and the right being more of a bar area with small booths, high top tables and the bar with two flat screens going (one in the center, one at the far end). Bar was packed and quite a bit of takeout was happening. I had the English Porter (top notch) and Irish Stout (style consistent and another good offering). My friend had the barleywine which was also quite good (tends to be a hit or miss style for me, but I really liked it). Also on tap was the Golden Ale, Blueberry Blonde and Winter Warmer. Sat at the bar. Service was decent - initial drink was served quickly, but it took a while to get our order in. Our bartender switched out and was much more attentive. Food was served quick and hot and was quite tasty. $63 got us 4 beers, a growler, a burger and an order of fish and chips which I though was pretty reasonable, particularly for Newport. Well worth your time if you are in the area.

Update 2/6/2009:
Growler refills are $15 minimum, higher abv are about $20.

Eaten here many times but just started tasting craft beers. The flight of 7 is extensive. Some of the year round beers are just average. Wish you could pick you selection. Some of the seasonals were excellent.

Nothing really to write home about as far as decor and 'vibe'. Service wasn't bad, but the Lobster Ravioli was FANTASTIC!! Best I have had in a long time and I grew up on the coast of NH. Definitiely worth the trip! And their Blueberry Blonde was great as well!!

This place is really a waste of your time. They do brew on site, but the beers are weak and boring at best. The food is boring too. The people are very nice, and there is a good rum cocktail. Norey's and Malt are only 2 miles down West Main Rd which turns into Broadway.

Stopped in here toady for a late lunch to take a break from walking all over the mansions in Newport. Fairly unassuming restaurant looks like a chain store but isn’t. somewhat crowded for a Thursday afternoon. 7 beers on tap general pub grub menu. Decent enough beer and food, service a little to slow and prices just a bit on the high side. I’d stop in again if in the area but I wouldn’t make a trip for it.

Nice little pub/restaurant. Their brewing room is visible through a huge glass window, where you can see the huge mash tun, fermenters, and bags of grain etc. Went here for late company lunch, and of course got the sampler, which is 7 beers in 7 oz. glasses.

Decent pub food and selection, including some sea food which is common for the area. A bit pricy but very reasonable for the area. Service is great, nice, no complaints.

They rotate a few beers seasonally and have a few year rounders. Overall I was let down by the beer. Every beer was a bit below par, a bit weak. Definitely worth stopping by once if you're in the area though.

This was a very pleasant first time experience! The beer selection was nice, the beer quality was excellent, the food was delicious, and the service was exemplary. The prices for everything did seem to be just a tad high, but you definitely get top quality for what you pay.

About the only thing I can say that they can improve on is to maybe have at least one imperial-style beer in their selection. Don't get me wrong, all of their beers were fantastic (their stout and scottish ale were two of the best that I've ever had!), but I also enjoy "big beers". It's a personal preference, and should not be a reflection on this establishment. I will not hesitate to go back there again when I am in the neighborhood.

Was camping in Burlingame State Park, and we made a trip into the Newport area to do some roaming/exploring. Just down the road from Newport Storm brewery was Coddington, and since we needed some grub, too, we went there first. It's your standard brewpub setup when you walk in, with a ton of seating and a clear view of the 7bbl brewing system they have. The beers were pretty solid, and they were still serving a few of their summer seasonals, which is a big chunk of their taps that they rotate. Growlers were available to go, and prices were based on ABV, from what the waitress explained to us. The staff was nice enough, but our waitress struggled a bit with some pretty basic questions regarding the beer, styles, and questions about growlers, all of which should be pretty straightforward in that setting. The food was great, all fresh and very tasty. Plenty of different things on the menu, and not all standard pub fare either, so you will likely find something for everyone. If we find ourselves in Rhode Island again, we will likely be seeking this place out.

One of the many beer destinations on a run from NJ to RI. We had planned to eat dinner here, but we weren't that hungry and just got the nachos. Those were pretty good. The menu had a decent line-up of appies and entrees. What we saw looked good and the patrons eating looked like they were enjoying the food.

The wait staff was very attentive. The place was empty when we got there, but was full when we left. The level of service never changed. We made a few requests on the nachos and they made them exactly as asked and even brought a good size side of jalapenos when we requested some extra ones.

The sampler is the seven beers they offer. Instead of a board, paddle, carrier, etc., they have the spots for each sample laid out on the place mat. Not a bad idea, but it's impossible to slide the place mat anywhere once the glasses are put down.

They had some year-rounds: Golden Ale (very pale and light, not much to it), blueberry blonde (like the pale ale with a slight blueberry taste, served with blueberries dropped into the glass), India pale (unimpressive IPA) and a hefeweizen (tasty, served with a slice of lemon but a little heavy for a hefe). There were also three "seasonals": watermelon ale (served with a micro-slice of watermelon, good aroma and flavor, light but too watery), nut brown ale (flavorful and nutty with a good body) and an oatmeal stout (very tasty, but a bit thin for a stout).

The vibe is almost that of a Bennigan's or Friday's without the flair. There's nothing that makes it stand out as a great place to go for a pint. Feels like a family restaurant that just happens to serve beer.

Stopped here with two buddies after a day at the casinos. We all ordered the sampler, 7 7-oz samples for $14. Not tooo shabby. Had the Irish Stout, Scotch Ale, Hefeweizen, Watermelon Ale, IPA, Blueberry Ale, and Golden Ale.

The atmosphere is nice- typical NE decor, long bar and big dining room, the 7bbl brewhouse is visible.

Food was OK- my buffalo chicken sandwich was kind of mundane, fries were good. The other people in my group ordered a pizza and a burger and both looked better than mine.

Prices were OK- Newport prices in Middletown, but what you gonna do. Most beers are available for growler fills. Growler with tax + dep. was $14.

Service was excellent- many people on shift and they were all very helpful.

Unfortunately, most all of the beer is middling to good, and none were great. The IPA is going to be my regular, not too much else jumped out at me.

My friend just moved about a mile away so I see this becoming a local hangout for us. Not great, but def. worth checking out, if only for a sampler and a quick bite.

A. Walk in and have a view of the brewing equipment and dining area. Walk a little more and there is nice bar that has about 10 seats. Couple of more tables and a pool table in the bar area. Above the bar it has a TV, grain bags and varied brewery decorations.

Q. All the beer was fresh.

S. Bartender was helpful and attentive.

S. Selections was limited to what they brew in house.

F. Never had a bad meal here.

V. Prices we reasonable.

This used to be a nice Sunday ride for me and my wife and grab some beers and good food. With more local beer bars to go to I only hit this place up couple times a year. They have a sampler rack. There beer here is brewed for the masses and not for the extreme beer geek. The have some interesting mixology going on with there beers and other liquors that are available.

I frequent the island about once a month. Its the only place i've found that serves good food and decent beer. They don't do anything fantastic with their beers, but I would highly recommend the ESB. The GF loves watermellon and blueberry when they are in season. Growlers are inexpensive. We usually go and get the worlds largest nachos which are $10 but more than enough for dinner for 2. Its also away from the hoity toity society of downtown newport. If you get bored, Coastal Extreme/Newport Storm is right next door, and they usually have something intresting worth trying

The brew pub as mentioned by others is very reminiscent of a family chain restaurant. I would site this as the establishments only real flaw.

The only food item we had was the potato skin sampler, which consisted of: Broccoli and chesse, Chili, steak and several other tasty toppings. A couple next to us ordered the nachos, that is on my list for next time, it looked ginormous.

The beer sampler is quite large. 8oz pours which we were not expecting. I will not review any one particular beer, but would say their beer is quite good. I took a growler of the IPA home.

Prices were very reasonable.

a little out of the way but ultimately not too difficult to find. this place has a serious family/applebees atmosphere going on, which is not quite a compliment, i reckon (i was on business and therefore alone; i would not come here for an outing with friends. sterile). the bar was granite--nice touch--though i think the proprietor clearly has a subscription to a knick-knack of the month club

codington bc offers growlers though i don't remember seeing anyone buying or refilling them. this perhaps is related to my concerns for the quality of malt used in the brews

the service was certainly adequate in terms of bartender attentiveness but they were head pourers, thereby guaranteeing wasted and wimpy aromas. i suggest that be put to an end

We visited here after a day trip to Newport. We were very pleased with the overall experience of this brewpub. My wife and I sampled a few of the beers. While they may not have been at the top of their categories, they were certainly decent enough. My wife and I both opted for seafood while we were here, and we were not dissapointed. She opted for the stuffed shrimp and I went for the stuffed scallops. They make their own stuffing here which was excellent. They also had a decent enough kids menu for my daughter. The decor was a little bland, but then again they weren't trying for the expensive ambiance.
