Originally reviewed May 22, 2005. On tap at the brewpub. Very murky amber brown pour, with golden orange fringes. Topped with a thin head of extremely creamy rich ivory head. Rich citrus and floral aroma, backed with a deep sweet cream pine and cherry. Aroma very reminiscent of a barleywine. Flavor starts surprsingly watery on the front end. Flavors present themselves on the back end better, with a one-dimensional hop profile and a sweet plum and cherry flavor. Quite rich and creamy. Muhc like an extremely hoppy American Style barley wine, but missing a malt component or two. Aftertaste is a citrus and floral smack of hop sugars. Probably not as hoppy as most hop-heads would like, but is pretty good.

This growler was filled 7-5-04. Opened on 7-14-04...poured into a 16 ounce hinged bottle and sent my way...drinking on 7-16-04..

Surprisngly pours with a touch of carbonation...great looking orangish red color....really impressive....

Surprisingly the hops seem subdued on the nose...more of a sweet fruitiness(pears big time)...some bubble gum....and a herbal hoppiness...from the nose I would never guess the IBU's are listed at 200+...but one sip let's you know that in a hurry....about what I expected....high enough in ABV and enough malt to keep this from being a hop soup...but it is has a coarse, raw...jagged and bitter hop flavor....piney....tart unsweetened grapefruit juice...amazingly it is smooth in the mouthfeel...buttery almost...finishes dry and tight but has a buttery glide to it as you drink it...the malt is there in a caramel like effort but is overshadowed by the 200+ IBU's....still the malt serves its purpose and keeps this from becoming totally overwhelming..

Mouth puckering goodness....couldn't drink very many of these...some won't like it because it's too bitter...I like places like this that push the envelope a little...would I drink a lot of it??...absolutely not....would I thoroughly enjoy it once in a while ?? Absolutely....really smooths out near the end of the glass...a toasty maltiness begins ot emerge..more complex than I first thought...

This is a badass heavily hopped beer that lived up to what I expected...nicely done....

This growler was filled 7-5-04. I'm drinking it on 7-14-04.

Glowing Scarlet Red/ Orange appearance. Clarity is pretty good. Head is a thin beige film. Lacing is sporadic and spotty. What a melange of aromas! Fruits fucking galore.. Melon, pineapple, prunes, plum, watermellon, apple, pear...Shit! It's like one big fucking fruit salad... one that has soaked in alcohol...and one that has been coated with caramel syrup. This is my kind of beer. Rarely do I meet a beer that really kicks my ass (in a good way). But this one does. There is a coarse hop bitterness up front, in the middle, at the end and long after the sip. There's also a nice medly of fruits on the palate, as there was on the nose. Similar as well with melon, apple, pear and grape skin all checking in. And this beer is not a hop tea by any means. There's a caramel/toffee like malt backing big enough to support the boatloads and boatloads of hops. Alcohol adds bite and spiciness to the mix. Mouthfeel is slightly carbonated and the body is about medium. Maybe a little better. This one is like a souped up Bigfoot...like "Bigfoot Squared"...or "Bigfoot Tripled." Long after the drink, it still feels like I'm grinding hop residue between my teeth.

Not for the weak.

Thanks for the one of a kind growler Tavernjef.

On-tap at the brewpub: Hazy caramel orange color, thin off-white head keeps a good foamed bubbly skim; super fine lacing in intricately woven yet thick sheeting.

Aroma has a big bubble gum presence with mixing sugar coated melon sweetness and juicy, resinous piney backed hops. A slight backing of toasty caramel keeps a nice sweet tone distinguised among the fruits and sugars.

Taste has a welcoming mild front of melon, quickly sugar coated, mellow for a good while with hop pine juices. Great toasty malt factions grabbing through from underneath. About 8 seconds later the fun begins where large and lengthy resin filled pine bitterness just rips out the throat and squeezes out any reminents of food or drink before. And it has one hell of an alcoholic hit, wowza! But that late bittering finish is awesome. Hello... hops!

Creamy, somewhat buttery medium body, lots of hop kick in the finish, actually a ton of hop kick. Oh, and watch out for that 11.9%, that sneaks up on ya right quick.

This is a bigtime biggly big Imperial IPA. Wow! I think my head is still swimming. Very nice stuff! Fitger's won me over with Misty Mtn...now they've bowled me over with this.
