Following a recent marathon that I raced, my and my wife's families all got together and went to Upland Brewing Company for dinner. Dad and I got there first so we decided to go ahead and grab a beer while we waited. Naturally, we went for an Oktoberfest first. After that I decided to pair their Easy Chair Amber with dinner.

This beer arrived at the table with next to no head whatsoever, although what was present was white and dissipated very quickly. The beer itself is a dark amber that is clear with moderate carbonation visible. The beer seems to glow in the light. 3.5/5 The aroma is malty and sweet with notes of heavily toasted grains, sorghum, caramel, and unmalted barley. There is a clean hop profile that comes through a bit as well. 3.75/5 Caramel is the initial flavor to come through prior to white bread, dates, and raisins all seeming to come to the forefront at the same time. Grassy hops come out in the final third with only a light bitterness that does not linger. 3.75/5 This beer is medium bodied with a light carbonation tickle up front that transitions into a light drying that lingers only slightly on the palate after swallowing. 4/5 This is not my favorite amber by a long shot, but it is still very good, especially with dinner (pork). It draws a balance between thirst quenching and drying and provides a flavorful and enjoyable glass. 3.75/5

L: Pours a copper Amber color with a small white head and not a lot of lacing.

S: Dark stone fruit, toasted Bready malt, maybe a slight burned note, not too strong of an aroma.

T: Toasted Bready malt and dark stone fruit, with a slight malt bitterness. Sorta Reminds me of a light barleywine and less a Amber ale.

F: Light body pretty low carbonation.

Exactly what you'd expect from an Upland non-sour. Malty, bland, boring.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

A- Dark amber. Off white head is dense, almost creamy, but there's not much to it.

S- Dark fruit notes and some breadiness.

T- Bready, slightly toasty. Faint earthy hop. But not too much flavor.

M- Carbonation is low. Pretty clean drink, but a little dryness in the finish.

O- Okay. Carbonation is low and there's not a lot to the beer.
