Very Good
Petal To The KettlePetal To The Kettle
Notes: This refreshing kettle sour welcomes in spring with a distinctly tart grapefruit, peach, and strawberry flavor. Hibiscus and rose petals were chosen to compliment the tart and citrusy character, giving this ale a delightful floral nose.

This beer pours a beautiful pinkish purple reminiscent of the inside of a ripe grapefruit. The aroma is of tart strawberries, lemon, and grapefruit with floral notes of rose and hibiscus. The flavor has a distinctly tart grapefruit character supported by peach, strawberry, and delicate hints of floral perfume.

Welcome back to my New Hoosier Daddy Beer Sunday (Week 738)! I am CANtinuing with CANs from IndiCANa, courtesy of @AyatollahGold & @jkblr both of whom have recently hooked me up, Hoosier style. It will be a CANner, not banner, day for The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "Tart at Full Speed"; "Ale with Rose, Hibiscus & Strawberry".

Was there a bumper crop of hibiscus in IndiCANa this year?!? This is my seCANd CANsecutive beer from there with hibiscus as an adjunct!

This beer strikes me as an homage to both my late Pops & his mom, my paternal grandmother. He was an avid bicyclist & a founding member of the Lancaster Bicycle Club & she was a brilliant gardener whose rose & raspberry bushes were a haven for bees. As to me, strawberries are my favorite fruit!

A Crack! a Glug & the same result! Clearly, either the adjuncts, the yeast or a CANbination of both do/es not lend itself/themselves to the creation of head and/or retention. It fizzed and foamed as quickly as I poured & quickly faded into nothingness. 8=( Color was again the cloudy look of freshly-squeezed Ruby Red grapefruit juice (SRM = N/A). Nose smelled like Grummy ChANdler's garden - fresh fruit & flowers! This was probably the least funky-smelling beer in this style that I have enCANtered. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was definitely tart, but not so much so as to be puckering. The taste was definitely of strawberries, underlain by easily-identifiable rose & hibiscus. I was pretty impressed with this one! It made me long for a strawberry pie, with or without rhubarb. And a bouquet of roses on the table as a centerpiece. I miss Pops & Grummy. 8=( Onward! This was NOT "tart at full speed" or I would not have liked it as much. Its lack of inherent tartness hurts it when rating to style, which may acCANt for its "Good" score. Finish was dry, after all, it was tart. I liked it much more than the previous IndiCANa hibiscus-infused beer & that has to count for something, right? YMMV.

Bright rose red color, tinted with purple. The nose is floral over core acidity. Flavor is primarily kettle sourness, sharp, with rose water and herbal tea accents. Pleasant and quite tasty, but not terribly deep.

Pours a pale pink. Definitely taste the strawberry and hibiscus. Get floral hints strawberry on the nose. Not an overpowering tartness with this sour. Very drinkable. On a warm summer day I bet this beer is even better.

Not sure why they say this beer is retired. Talked to a Upland rep and they are going to produce this beer on a yearly basis as part of their new sour series.

Cloudy and pink to light red in color. There’s a trace of a fingernail of off white on top. The aroma is of strawberries, rose, and hibiscus. The flavor is of muddled strawberries, rose, and hibiscus. The mouth is moderately carbonated.

Quite a sour wild ale from this Indiana brewery known for these types of beers. "Packaged 1/6/20, best by 5/6/20" printed on can so this may have been just a little too old. Pours a clearer medium pink color with a minimal film of white head and scant spotty lingering lacing that quickly faded. Aromas of tart raspberries, strawberries and cherries. Also some faint floral hops, malt and bread. Tastes similarly, decent balance but just too sour and tart for me. Probably meant to be that way but I couldn't quite appreciate it. Mild thin mouthfeel and decent carbonation that slowly faded.
