Side Trail Series — Juiced in Time is a New England-style IPA that's absolutely dripping with ripe tropical fruit and bold juicy citrus flavors. Wheat and oats were added to the malt profile along with a special mineral treatment to the water to create body and smooth texture. Virtually all the hops were reserved for after the boil to minimize bitterness and amplify flavor and aroma. From the glowing orange appearance to the soft creamy mouthfeel and delicate sweetness, this beer is everything delicious about tropical fruit juice embodied in a dangerously drinkable IPA.

Strong sweet melon and mango fruit aroma billows off the nose, and is evident in the flavor. The appearance has a color that is too dark and bubbles that are too large. Just a small amount of malt and hop flavor. Overall it tastes pretty good.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of peaches, light citrus. Taste is peaches, melons, light citrus, some resinous notes, mild to moderate bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall, not bad, but I was expecting more.

Ah, the haze is all the rage. When getting it "brewery-fresh" they are usually all they're cracked up to be. But when canned and sent to retail shelves, unwanted changes can happen. As brewers like Upland borrow a few tricks from shelf-stable IPA and apply them to a hazy recipe, its results can be tricky.

But there's no such worry here. Juiced In Time pours with a worrisome goldenrod appearance, a shade darker than expected. As a creamy froth rises to meet the rim, so does a bold perfume of peach, melon, citrus and tropical fruit. Sweeter on the palate, the suggestions of honey, light pastry crust and mild cereal set a malty tone early.

But the hops soon win out as the tropical fruits of mango, papaya and pineapple rise to the top. Not to be outdone, the citrusy counterpart of tangerine, lime and red grapefruit start to emerge. With hints of peach, apricot and cantaloup keep the session juicy and rounded, the ale trails into a herbal late taste of sun tea, fresh cedar and peppery pine-like resins.

Medium bodied and trending malty-dry, the IPA finishes both off-dry and off-juicy, putting it in a pretty good place to satisfy both fans of hazy and bitter IPA. The ale lingers into a slightly bitter taste of fruit rinds and spruce for a beer that's the best of all hoppy worlds.

Darker in color with a light tan head. Lots of lacing. Nose was very fragrant. Citrus galore. Surprising how dry this was. Hoppy bitterness followed. Great beer.

Canned on 07/08/20, thanks Knapp85 for sharing this can.

A - Opaque medium to dark peach color with bright white thin lacing.

S - Pungent nectarine with some light peppery notes.

T - Nectarine with peppery fruit rind with a lingering spicy fruit pectin. Finishes on the sweeter side.

M - Big medium body with a chalky texture that coats the mouth.

O - A nice, unobtrusive IPA from Upland.

Poured out as a slightly hazed yellow color with a nice head with a sticky lacing on the glass. The smell of the beer had a very nice hoppy aroma to it. The taste had a good balance of flavor from hops to malt with subtle bitterness in the finish. The feel of the beer is very drinkable. Overall I wasn't expecting this from Upland, I'm pleased and glad that it popped up at my local store.

Had Juiced in Time poured from pint can, bottom stamped "BB: 100820," and "PKGD: 070820," muled back from Btown by daughter, into nonic pint. I always enjoy Upland's one-off Side Trail IPAs, but they have long made me wish the brewery would release a couple of quality year-round IPAs. Juiced in Time started as a Side Trail beer and got promoted to a "specialty" beer. Next step, year-round?

Whatever, it looks great off the pour, hazy orange-gold with a thick head that sticks around well enough, and leaves some variable but satisfactory lace. Aroma is interestingly citrusy, spicy and tropical (melon). A dry malt base supports all the mildly sweet, citrusy, spicy (wheat), tropical and melon (are pineapples a melon?) flavors before a biting citrus rind finish.
