Nice! Tart raspberries straight off the vine, raspberry jam, wine notes. High level of acidity, but still packed with berry flavor. Slightly overcarbed, which is really my only complaint, but this was manageable with a couple swirls of the glass. This is a very nice fruited sour from Upland.

Pours a pink/ purple hazy juice color with a continually replenishing head. Aroma, grape juice, raspberry, little funky yeast, a little seltzer kind of smell. Taste- raspberry grape juice. A little acidity a little tang. Mouthfeel- a bit chewy and pretty highly carbonated. Overall, a pretty sour beer with some real nice fruit character. Not overly done in either respect. Did come off pretty juicy. Liked this.

Dark Red with light frothy head. Raspberry Smell. Taste delicious, tart fruity flavor. Pretty acidic & carbonated. Very enjoyable. Overall a fantastic beer that I will revisit.

Pours a beautiful reddish color with a soft white fizzy head which denotes the high carbonation in the this beer. Nice light funk smell with berry notes. Aggressively sour, mouth puckering sour. Highly carbonated with a tartness and soft berry note finish. Slightly unbalanced with the tartness and carbonation. The raspberry does not come out as strong as other fruits but all told still flavorful with the fruit notes coming out slightly at the finish.

Serving: 750mL bomber poured into a tulip. Bottled on 9/14/14, making this a little over 10 months old.

A: Pours a stunning bright pink/red color with a fizzy white head that dissipates quickly.

S: Fresh pureed raspberries with just a little funk to it.

T: Cringe-worthy sour up front, but then after the tart finish, soft raspberry/blackberry/fruit puree notes come though in the aftertaste.

M: Probably as sour as they come. And it doesn't let up either.

O: So this is my 2nd lambic from Upland, first being Strawberry. Both were extremely sour. Though this one has higher ratings, I think I prefer Strawberry since the flavors actually came through a bit better. You could actually tell it was strawberry. Here, I get like a berry mix, with some blackberry and other small seed fruits. Upland lambics are good, but not great. This one's a little unbalanced and aggressively sour. It is a beautiful looking beer though, and nice to sip on on a warm summer day. Just can't drink more than a small pour.

Recommendation: Worth seeking out if you've never had an Upland sour before, but if you've had one of the fruited lambics already, that's probably enough. No need to try the whole set.

750ml bottle shared at the Malt House while waiting for Great Taste tickets.

Darker pink-reddish body, half finger pink head, not much retention, no lacing. Smells of dank raspberries, very fruit forward with a bit of oak. Strong lactic acid presence; you know it's going to be very sour. No funk. Flavour is actually pleasant, tons of raspberry flavour, although this is partially offset by a large amount of lactic sourness that you continue to be aware of a hour later. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, not thin, plenty of flavour, good carbonation, but it's very acidic and difficult to drink in any large quantity. This beer is meant to be shared. Overall, it's not terrible and has a lot of fruit flavour, but your bowels will still thank you for being conservative with your pours of this beer.

Pours a hazy pink with spritzy carbonation. Nose features the signature Upland wild profile which presents a TON of acid and a little bit of fruit to support it. The rapsberry aroma is present, but is largely overshadowed by lactobacillus, oak, and funk. The taste is no different with heavy acetic acid up front which sends sour shockwaves throughout the palate. This is one of those sours I can really feel at the very back of my tongue. The fruit is mellow but present. Oak and grain come through on the finish. Mouthfeel is highly carbonated which works with the tartness. Overall, somewhat one dimensional but enjoyable for sure.

10/9/13 bottle.

Pours a rice rich red with so many rooby tonez. Thin, pale pink head that bails fast. Some chunks floating around despite my expert pour. Very sour raspberries on the nose with a bit of wood and musty funk.

Pretty over the top sour, but not as bad as the cherry I had the other day. Good raspberry taste is there with a bit of wood and a touch of dry funk.

A bit too sour for me, but enjoyable in a small amount.

Raspberry sour warhead. Poured out, light purple pinkish. Wispy white head that faded fast. Smelled of lacto, berries and a bit of fusel alcohol. Pretty classic Upland. I found this to be maybe slightly less than full throttle on the Upland Sour spectrum. Very enjoyable.

Batch 71-09. Bottled 3-17-12. Beautiful looking beer. Clear. Tartness became bracing a little too quickly for my liking, otherwise a fantastic beer. A 4.75+ beer as a first impression.

A - Dark red, burgundy color, mostly opaque from particulate. Pinkish white head that is minimal and fades immediately to nothing. No lacing.

S - Funk and sour, barnyard with bright raspberry mingled with a more corrupted element, and more subtle woodiness.

T - Primarily sour, but with a welcome raspberry line throughout. A lactic element comes through, suggesting yogurt tang.

M - Very brisk carbonation that scrubs the tongue and limits the fatigue, but there is significant puckering sourness.

O - This, my second lambic from Upland, and it is a major step forward. The fruit is a core, key element, and is well-integrated into the experience. The sourness is strong and forward, but is not overwhelming or unpleasant. While the funkiness is at the outer edge of my preferences, and is perhaps the main element I feel is not entirely to my liking, it is nevertheless consistent with the style. Well done.

Note - revised to reduce score because the sourness produced a stomach ache later that night; still a good beer, but I feel the powerful sour may be a bit over the top based on my later experience.

Appearance: pours the color of ripe raspberries, a dark shade of red. a finger or so of a pinkish white head with a weak retention and lacing. completely hazy and opaque.

Smell: super sour raspberries and lemon acidity. slight notes of oak

Taste: opens up with juicy, super sour raspberries, a touch of sweet raspberry jam to it. a lemony, vinegary acidity comes through along with slight oak to earthy qualities.

Mouthfeel: mouth-puckering sour. strong acidity, some dryness.

Overall: did I say this one was sour? it may easily be the most sour beer I have tried, and still pretty delicious at that.

A: Pours a dark red/berry-ish under a thin (1/4") pinkish head which fades quickly to the edges and leaves a few spots of lace.

N: Bright raspberries dance around the barnyard and get tarted up. Faint oak, musty and earthy.

T: Follows nose with more funk and tartness. Fruity and musty.

M: Moderate body and light carbonation. Finishes fruity, tart and funky.

O: A treat and enjoyed and would have again and again.

For the lambic fans on the hunt for the type of sourness that'll kick your teeth in, Upland brewers have got your back! Their raspberry infused sour ale has got the taste that will make your face "stick that way".

Its hazy mauve color preludes the berry fruit within. With dainty pink foam, the ale often prefers red wine appearances. That's, of course until the nose draws near. That's when tangy fruit notes and high acidity overcomes the senses with jaw-tightening and saliva inducing involuntary response.

As apple cider, dry wine, lime, white vinegar and unmistakable raspberry dagger the taste buds with its pin-point sourness, a sweeter and mustier tone gradually sets in. Its juicy and vibrant raspberry taste is distinct and easily identifiable; not yet scrubbed away by fermentation. Its sour and sweet interplay is aggressive even as the character of weathered oak, corkish must with elements of brine, sweat and goat layering upon.

Its expressive carbonation prickles at the tongue and enlivens the sour taste of the beer. Though the ale may be slightly fuller than the driest lambics on the market, its carbonation and acidity counters nicely en route to a dryish and tangy fruit-forward finish.

Gorgeous raspberry color with an immensely fizzy head. Sour, tart nose with a natural earthy raspberry and a mineral aspect. The flavor is a pucker factor times ten with strong tart and sour raspberry. The raspberry is a very natural freshly picked flavor with some earth tones and maybe a bit of mineral. The puckering flavor obviously translates to feel but it's without the vinegar feel. This is a straightforward, unabashed raspberry sour!

Shared at a private tasting event.

Pours a fairly clear light red until the sediment is reached at the end of the bottle. Then, it's murky. The aroma is very acetic, with citric acid notes, and raspberry sweetness. There is a subtle touch of yeasty funk. Flavor is one of the most sour things I've ever tasted. Notes of oak and raspberry weave a tapestry along with the acetic, citric, and lactic acid, creating a really rewarding experience. It's impressive that, despite the incredibly sour taste, there's enough berry and wood character to shine and really make this beer a standout. Definitely couldn't drink a full bottle in one sitting, though.

4 oz pour from bottle at Upland Tasting

A- Hazy pinkish with bubbly head
S- Immediate salivation. Vinigar and berries!
T- Huge wave of sourness. Slight raspberry/ sweet berry profile then more sour. Total moth puckering experience in a good way.
M- Very fizzy

O- This is my first sour from Upland. I enjoyed it for what it was. I wonder if the flavors would mellow with a year or if they would just get more intense. This one is right on the edge of being too sour.

This beer attacks of an absurd amount of tartness. While being familiar with wild ales, this beer is quite memorable in the sense is numbingly sour. The acid even burns down the esophagus.

Still, the rasberry fruit flavor is there and the beer is filled of flavor. I find that most will have a hard time with this one, unless they truly enjoy extreme tartness.

Clear and full red. A quarter inch of fizzy head.

Smells like unripe raspberries and vinegar.

Way sour. Raspberry and cider vinegar. It's more dry than sweet.

Thin mouthfeel, but works. Heavy carbonation.

It was ok. I would have liked more sweetness to cut the acidity but otherwise a decent raspberry lambic.

Served from a 750ml C&C. Bottle 12-20-13. Celalr Temps.

Appearance- Beautiful ruby with quick off-white bubbly head that left no lacing.

Smell- Tons of raspberry! Lots of funk and oaky smells. It's pure raspberry jam.

Taste- Holy jesus. Raspberry, vanilla, oak, tons of vinegar. Very sour raspberry jam. A good bit of funk.

Mouthfeel- Sharp carbonation with bracing acidity. Light body with tiny amount of heat.

Overall- Extremely sour, as I imagined it would be due to what I've heard, but tons of raspberry and oak. Very nice birthday treat.

2013 bottle into a snifter.

A. Pours a rich garnet with a small pink head.

S. Big tart raspberry, moderately acetic, earthy seed.

T. More acetic sourness, light fruity sweetness. A bit jammy. You can tell they used a lot of fruit but it's still pretty dry and tart.

M. Light-bodied with mild carbonation.

O: Tasty beer. Like the other Upland sours it's good but simple. Probably the best one in the series so far.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy raspberry jam color with nary a head though it leaves quite a few dots around the glass

Smell: Slightly sweet but primarily tart raspberry with a lemon and lactic character underlying

Taste: The sweet raspberry tones hit the tip of the tongue but as the liquid spreads across the tastebuds a lemony lactic sourness builds; after the swallow, it turns very acetic and burns on the way down the gullet

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with low to moderate carbonation; very puckery

Overall: There is a lot to enjoy in this beer but beware of the extreme acidity on the finish

Reviewing the Raspberry Lambic from Upland Brewing Company out of Bloomington, Indiana.

Score: 93

Bottles 10/09/13. Served in a Kate the Great snifter and enjoyed on 01/20/14.

Appearance: Pours a dark and murky purplish red raspberry color, with a fizzy head that quickly dissipates. No lacing or retention. Nice color, though. 4/5

Smell: Big raspberry here -- juicy, jammy, vinaigrette, candied. Vinegar and lacto, some lemon zest. Faint barnyard notes and a subtle cracker/wheat character too. Bright, apparent sourness on the nose. 4.25/5

Taste: What dominates and hits instantly, just like the nose, is the big raspberry flavor. Tart, juicy and candied, the sour raspberry coats the palate with sharply, followed by a residual sweetness. Has a nice sour bite upfront. As the tart pucker mellows, the juiciness dries out. Finishes with residual sweet raspberry, lacto and a subtle mix of barnyard flavor and wheat. Has a bit of a bitterness towards the finish. Notes of oak and granny smith apples too. 4.25/5

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, low carbonation. Starts with a puckering sour bite, followed by an underlying sweetness and a light finishing bitterness. Juicy mouthfeel on the palate, a bit more dry on the finish. 4.25/5

Overall: Like a sour warhead candy with a lacto character, the big berry flavor greatly overshadows the the barnyard base characters that are mostly present towards the finish. If you like your sours to be bright and fruity with a big acidic pucker, then this is your beer. Pairs great with goat cheese walnut salad with bitter greens. This is one of my favorite Upland's sours.

Cost: $25 for a 750 ml bottle.

Bottle poured into a Cantillon Tulip. 2012 Bottle

A - Color is a deep dark Ruby red that reminds you of the color of fresh raspberries. There is a big frothy pinkish head that sits on top of this one

S - The main note in the nose is fresh raspberries that leans a bit to the tarter raspberry side. There is also lemon, balsamic vinegar and light oak.

T - Taste is pure sour raspberries up front. There is a strong balsamic vinegar and lemon that comes in the middle that makes you pucker up. The finish is mostly this balsamic vinegar presence that lingers on

M - Medium carbonation and it packs a lot of tingle on the tongue due to the sharp tartness. The finish is dry and leaves a tart, prickly feeling on the tongue

O - This is one of the better Upland sours that I've had as it is tart and packs a lot of the fruit flavor. It is definitely a tart lambic as it has minimal funky characteristics to it.

Appearance - Not a gusher! Pink body with a big white head. Thick collar.

Smell - Lots of raspberry and a ton of acidity. Lactic. Grain. Very intense sourness.

Taste - Intensely sour. Good tart raspberry. A little bit of vinegar. Grainy wheat.

Mouthfeel - Highly carbonated. Strong acidity.

Overall - Better than I expected but reappy goddamn sour.
