Produced a nice red body with a nice off-white, thick, dense, 2 finger head that had good retention. Noticeable yeast floating in the body. Some lacing and a thin cap remained throughout.
Bready malty aroma with a slight hint of citrus hops.
A malt bomb, much stronger than anticipated, but exactly what I would expect from a red. The beer had a slight apricot hint to it as well.
Medium body, smooth and easy to drink. A very nice offering from B-town.

Bottled Jan ‘12
(Served in a dimple mug)
A- This beer pours a hazy reddish brown body with a slightly sticky oatmeal tan head that last a good bit.
S- The light dry toasted malt has a mellow woody aroma to it with some green hops in the finish.
T- The dry toasted malt taste has some green herbal hops to follow in a slightly dry finish. There is a nice lightly toasted biscuit malt flavor that comes through as the beer opens.
M- The medium mouthfeel has no alcohol heat and a gentle fizz.
O- This beer has a nice blend of hops and a good support of malt. There is also a nice depth to the malt that makes this very drinkable.

Serviceable beer. On the darker reddish side. A story of malt and tart to sour taste. Hopping did not come through. Faint hop in the aroma.Above average carbonation and mineral traces. Earthy, though nothing will executed or worth seeking out. Maple Sugar bar.

A nice, rich, amber as promised upon pouring into my ale glass, with decent, if unremarkable lace.
Nose says grains, malty sweet. Not outstanding.
It's all followed by a hoppy (but balanced) flavor. Rad Red's not flashy, showy, or "extreme" (by a long shot), but with hints of maple and citrus, this one's got a nice and complex flavor profile. Maybe I'm being pretentious for deciphering those flavors, but this one's unquestionably steady, sturdy, and brings joy to my palate.

Pours a nice amber, light reddish hue in the corners, medium sized off white head forms, settles down to a thin ring, nice lacing. Smell is alright, caramel, very citrusy, grapefruity, sweet and sugary, some floral, strawberries, crackers, kind of neat. Taste is alright, caramel and sugary sweetness up front, lightly fruity, citrus, a bit spicy, some grapefruit and biscuit, a little light but nice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Not too bad.

Finger and a half of fluffy white head, but the beer looks like iced tea.
The only thing I could smell was smoke, but it smelled nice.
Taste is interesting, nothing jumps out, but an Earthy smoky flavor was noticeable, with some hops in the background.
There was a bitterness in the mouth that stayed with you til the next sip, something I've gotten used to with Upland beers.
This was a very enjoyable, highly drinkable beer.

A: Pours a nice amber red with a small head that dissipated quickly.
S: The aroma smells a bit more brown to me than a normal red but I don't have a good smeller.
T: A dark maltiness flavor comes through on this with some bitterness in the end.
M: Great mouth feel. Nice and creamy.
D: Overall not bad. I'd drink another... and another...

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a mostly clear copper (there seems to be a good bit of suspended oils present) with a finger of foamy slightly off-white head. Retains with a thin layer of froth, which leaves a cascade of spotty foam down the sides of the glass. The aroma is quite sticky and sweet in the nose, with resins, tropical fruit, and bready caramel all being surrounded by some gentle feeling floral and spicy textures. This has a nice robust tang to it in the nose.
The taste is has an assertive hoppy bite to it of dry spice and pine to it, with an under layer of grapefruit adding some extra juicy bitterness to this. A VERY tangy tasting backbone of sweet fruit, caramel, and toasted malt does a great job of balancing things out, while the hops return in the finish with a dryly bitter and resinous end to things. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a touch of thick creaminess to the carbonation up front that then sharpens up nicely as you ready for the swallow and nicely accentuates the aggressiveness of that finish. Some oily slickness underneath keeps this moving very well and I'm getting no sense of the ABV here at all, making for a very drinkable affair here.
Quite the assertive and tasty little American Red Ale from Upland here, with an aggressive hop profile that was well balanced by the kind of deep sweet stickiness that I really like in these. Really easy feel and drinkbility on this as well. This was definitely one of the more solid ones from the Upland mix pack.

Bottled in June '09. Served in a pint glass paired with a nice T-bone steak.
A: Pours an amber/orange. Has a very small amount of head. Good active carbonation.
S. Crisp, grainy malts. Some roastiness and a tad bit of sweetness.
T: Big malts and grains. A small amount of hops dominate the finish.
M: Light bodied. Carbonation is on par for the style
D: Goes down very easy. You could knock back quite a few of these if it was to your liking.
Pretty run of the mill for the style, but I'm not a huge fan of Amber ales to begin with. I've heard the beer is significantly better out of a firkin.

Had on tap at Upland.
A- Poured a semi-hazy deep amber color. One finger off white head stays around for a long while until it falls to a cap on the beer. Light streaking lacing left on the glass as I drank away.
S- The aroma was muted more than I would have liked but that is just me. Sweet caramel malts make up the base of the aroma with some light toasted qualities to the nose of this. Light earthy hops in the backing of the aroma.
T- Taste follows the aroma almost perfectly. Big caramel malts rush toward the palate with a light toasted apperance. This finishes with a light earthy hop bitter bite before it is all done. Like a one two punch and then the beers done for the count flavor wise.
M- Medium light mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Left malty slickness everywhere in the mouth and some light bitter hops in the aftertaste. Flavors were muted but still clean.
D- This was a very drinkable beer that I would have had more of but I didn't want to drink a lot before a 4 hour car ride back home. Plus there was some other stuff that I hadn't had that was on tap.

12 ounce bottle bottled in January 2011. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a mostly clear amber/red color with a half inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent. Aroma is caramel malt, toffee, bready malt and some light grassy hops. The brew tastes like caramel malt, grassy hops, toasted malt and a little bit of spicy hops. The hop flavors are stronger than I thought they would be, at least in comparison to the aroma. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit creamy and has good carbonation. It's also easy to drink. It's a solid amber ale overall, I'd buy this again on occasion. I think it's a nice drinkable brew.

A: Finger plus head that settles to patches that stick around and fairly coat the glass in lace. A dark, warm amber with burnished copper highlights at the edges. Now the bad part. Lots of floaties - not hazy, but huge chunks. Some settle out, but many keep floating around. Really takes away from what otherwise is an attractive brew.
S: A bit floral and fruity, and I think those are C-hops. There is some diacytal in here, and in the background some faint yet complex and slightly sweet malts.
T: Those are C-hops. This is quite hoppy for an amber. I dare say it is more hop forward than Upland's Dragon Fly IPA. But it also has a robust grain bill. Starts with a multi-grain, caramel sweetness that is quickly doused by the hops. Here we have mostly grapefruit peel with some resin and a touch of spicyness. There also seems to be some grain-based based spicyness, perhaps rye, as the malts pull back through with the same caramel multi-grain sweetness, but some biscuit and toasted grain also become apparent. Then the hop bitterness returns and sticks around.
M: Just a hair beyond medium body. A touch sticky. Medium carbonation that has a lush character from tight small bubbles. But here again, the floaties really detract. I don't care for dregs in my beer.
D: The floaty dregs hurt this beer. Otherwise it is a good effort and I really like the idea of it - a robust, complex amber/red that packs a bit of a punch. A nice change versus ubiquitous session oriented versions. It does seem a bit rough around the edges, and all different things it has going on don't quite work together seamlessly. Also, with its tilt towards hops it the interesting things it seems to have going on in the grain bill are a bit overshadowed by the alpha acids.

A: A reddish amber color, slightly cloudy, with a tan head that is dissipating as I type this.
S: Malty, a little bit of burnt caramel, and a little earthy hop aroma, but not a lot here.
T: Malty, with a bitter kick, and a touch of citrus hops at the end. Fairly well balanced, though the hop finish is a little strong.
M: Medium bodied, with rather strong carbonation.
D: Overall I am not very impressed, drinkable, but not something I would get a lot of.

As far as looks go this one pretty much nails it as far as the body goes. It is deep ruby amber in tone. Head is light a beige tone that stands two fingers tall and fades slowly leaving a half inch wall of lace. Nose is a special mixture of sweet candied citrus and smooth but rich softly laced malts. Really wonderful nose here. The taste simulates the nose very well with a wonderful mixture of crisp rustic hops and nicely balancing malts. The flavor is so complete and pleasing I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by this one from Upland. The flavor of this on really falls in line with some of my favorite hoppy red/amber ales. The mouthfeel is of a beer you can drink and enjoy all night long. As far as true drinkability goes it just doesn't get any better then this.

12 oz bottle poured into a Mug. Bottled June '09 notched on label.
A - Lightly hazy coppery-amber color with a moderate one-finger cream-colored head on the pour but went down to a foam somewhat quickly. Specks of lacing stay on the glass but very minimally.
S - Low to moderate aromas overall. Nothing stands out exceptionally or pours out into my nose. Pale and amber malts with a moderate hop presence. Lacking any sort of character, this just smells. Not good, not bad, just smells.
T - No malt hints on the flavor. A hop presence dominates the palate. Probably dry-hopped. Very floral. A citrusy splash with a pine kick. Strangely I got a low caramel hint once when I cleared my throat but it's still completely lacking malt presence. It shouldn't taste like a Pale Ale/IPA combo.
M - Smooth going down with a harshly dry finish that parches the throat. The citrus and pine compiled with the hop bitter kick is a bit harsh for this style. A bit slick and light-medium bodied.
D - If the mouthfeel wasn't so dang dry it wouldn't be so rough but it feels like an Irish Red and tastes like a hoppy Pale Ale. Not a fan of this one.

Pours with a solid head with copper color. Decent looking beer. A bit of malt and hops in the nose neither very prominent.
Taste is a bit sweet and tea like tannin aftertaste but a nice easy drinking beer. A filler perhaps in a 12 pack sampler but ok nonetheless.

Pours clear crimson with a small off-white head dissipating almost immediately.
Bready aroma with some caramel, pine and spice.
Flavor is much hoppier than your average red. That bready caramel thing is still present making it a bit sticky, but a nice underlying pine flavor asserts itself before finishing spicy and dry.
Medium to light bodied a touch of creaminess and good carbonation.
Probably my favorite "every day" Upland beer. Nothing radically or fantastic about this one, but a solid easy drinking red good for days of sitting on the patio with a plate of nachos.

nice medium amber color with nice clarity to it and a small white head on top. Aroma of nice carmael malts and a dose of piney hops. Warming really brought out the sweet notes here, very solid. Nice medium body and very well carbonated. Strong caramel and bready malt undertones were very prominant with hops an afterthought but strong enough to really shine through in the finish. Mild dryness and a smooth, sweet note to finish
