Nov 16 bottling

Appearance: Pours espresso dark, with a bubbly tan head; decent enough retention and a leggy lacing pattern

Smell: Roast and dark chocolate tones; hints of dark fruit

Taste: Dark chocolate forward, with the roasty element increasing in intensity; through the middle coffee and dark fruit tones make an appearance; the finish is on the sweet side, with licorice tones lingering in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: Really surprised by the low ratings here - I saw at least one reviewer who thought it was a barrel-aged beer; it's not the best RIS I have encountered (not enough dark fruit and too much sweetness) but it can sit in the same room as many of the others

Thanks, darktronica, for the opportunity

November 2016 bottling. Pours opaque and black, with moderate thickness and producing a small bit of lacing. Smells of cocoa powder and slight char. Chocolate up front on the tongue, immediately followed by significant bitterness that gives more of an impression of malts roasted to a crisp than of hop character.

12oz bottled Nov 2016 poured into tulip glass at 50 degrees. Impressive tan head from aggressive pour. Thin lacing all the way down the glass. Smell is sweet chocolate and roast. Taste follows with chocolate and coffee fading to moderate bitterness from roasted malt on the end. Mouthfeel is thick and enjoyable and not overly sweet. Overall, good and enjoyable. I think there is sometimes confusion on this beer as it is aged on cacao nibs but not in barrels(unless you come across that at the brewery). One of the better beers coming out of southern Indiana IMO.

Very roasty and bitter. I'm more of a fan of creamy, more balanced stouts. Still worth a try considering the price point is decent. Had it on tap at work.

Draft served in a mini snifter

A - Black, with large light- tan bubbles around the edge of the glass 4

S - very little smell to it for a BA Stout. Slightly sweet odor. 2

T - super light, faintly roasts. I'd believe this was more of a porter than a barrel aged stout. Not as much sweetness as expected, but a bit of coffee. Not picking up any cocoa. 1.75

M - light and watery. Very thin for the style. 2

O - Does not hold up to the competition. Much less going on than in any other BA RIP I've had. 2
