Had on tap at One Pint Pub, July of 2011. Review from notes. Pour is dark orangish red color with creamy tight bubbly off white head. Nose has a touch of malt, sweet caramel, lots of oily resiny hop, pine, notes of citrus. The hops are more pronounced. The malt is light, sweet but still very hoppy. More grapefruit on the citrus end while still offering oily hop strong bitterness. Medium body, soft palate, moderate carbonation and a touch dry. Very hopped up, well balanced, and nice.

Brewed at De Proef. Served on-draught at One Pint Pub in Helsinki, Finland, in Summer 2015. Reviewed from notes. This is exclusive to One Pint Pub.

Expectations were fairly high given De Proef's involvement.

No bubble show formed as it was poured.

HEAD: None. There's a glimmer of an off-white head but it recedes inside 5 seconds, leaving no lacing - and no time to note its characteristics in more detail by the time the pint is served.

BODY: Dark murky dull copper. No yeast or sediment is visible within.

Looks below average for an American amber. Seems undercarbonated as well.

AROMA: Toasty amber malts, floral hop notes, bread-like malt sweetness, still more amber malts. Aromatic intensity is average. I find no off-notes, alcohol, or yeast.

TASTE: Has an apt amber malt body with an emphatic floral and resinous hop profile. Hnts of bready sweetness. Toasty characteristics amount to its best characteristic. Balanced and enjoyable, with adequate complexity and subtlety for the style. It's not mind-blowing, but damn is it balanced. Aggressive without being off-kilter. Boasts above average depth of flavour, but only average flavour duration and intensity.

It's a nice build for an amber.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, and medium-bodied, with adequate heft, thickness, and weight on the palate. Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy. Complements the taste generally well, but there's not a natural harmony of mouthfeel and flavour. A biteen overcarbonated.

OVERALL: Not a gestalt built, but a well-executed one for what it is. I wouldn't order it again (especially at its Finnish price point, coupled with its bar-specific exclusivity), but it's worth trying once.
