Recreated from an IPA recipe Mike Hoops found from the year 1800. The recipe was altered slightly with the british style hops additions (5 lbs per barrel) spaced out more during the boil to allow the beer to be drinkable now instead of months after a sea voyage.

Thick, slightly off white head sticks around for a while before fizzing into a ring, the body is caramel amber in color. The aroma has a malty character to it, but is mainly of an array of hops, first I got a pine-like floral smell, then a citrus/lemon peel zing. This is from a recipe from England in 1800, so it's hard to argue that it is an English IPA, but the taste is closer to what is now considered an American IPA. A good malty character, but not too caramel-like, fresh floral hops rule this beer, then start a bit more floral but end up really citrusy, a lot of orange flavor in the finish. Average 'good' mouthfeel, very drinkable. Maybe not one to put a lot of effort into seeking out, but it is a damn good beer.

Edit: the 2007 batch is awesome, I liked it more than the feeling I got reading through my '06 review, and I bumped its score up a bit. Good complex hop flavor.

At the Tap, served in a TH tulip. Very clear bright light honey copper, with a good 1 finger head, good retention, good lacing. Nose is sweet malty-biscuity goodness, flowery and slightly green sweetness...nicely done. Taste follows...pretty sweet, but there’s a little bitter edge there that is nice, too.

this might be the best thing i've had in a long, long time. kind of in love with this one.

pours clear copper, with good carbonation and a lingering head. no lacing.

very floral aroma, with a spicy bite to it. yeasty, bready notes follow, but really the floral note takes center stage.

taste is bitter mitigated by the malt and floral hops, but the mildness doesn't linger. there's almost something minty about this one, too, or something a bit cooling.

medium body overall with a drying, bitter finish.

i'm a fan. malty, well hopped, higher abv - really hits all the point for the style.

Pours brilliant gold with a 1” creamy white head that produces decent lace. Floral and malt aromas rise from the glass. Floral hops provide enough bitter accent to balance a slightly sweet malt presence. Medium body and carbonation. Very drinkable.
