#4 in the Town Hall single-hop series, and possibly my favorite? Love those Amarillos, just adore them!
Crystal clear, light amber coloration, very pale, with an enormous, milky white head towering above and gently drifting down, leaving lace in the wake.
Sweetness and bitterness meet in the nose, a huge citric (orange and lemon, and lime) content, plus lots of tropical fruit (pineapple, papaya,) and big, fat, juicy pine all up and down and over and out, plus an herbal edge, as well. Lively, vibrant, a bit floral, even, and huge in it's appeal. Stand up and makes you salute.
Taste is sweet, slick, and smooth. Hops glide and ride around the palate, but never get too bitter. It lingers on the finish, as well, but that is the hophead's delight, isn't it, to feel that fantastic flavor still buzzing on the tastebuds?
The body is light, pushing the drinkability factor almost through the roof! Damnably delicious! I really wish all pale ales were like this, honestly! Lacks a bit of balance, malt is really minor here, but I don't miss it that much.
Honestly, this fits the bill as an ideal session brew for yours truly, for the big, hoppy feel never flags on the palate, but it slides down so well, and you never tire of the flavor.
I had 2 pints at the pub today, sampling now via growler, but tasted this first cask-conditioned at the 9-11-04 Autumn Brew Review. I will certainly have a hand in this ale's swift exit from the pub, as I can see many glasses easily drained.
Love that Amarillo, fruity, spicy, zesty, yum!

On-tap at the brewpub: After many samples at the Autumn Brew Review I was looking forward to a full pint of this stuff, and I must say it doesn't disappoint...color is a clear golden yellow with a small fluffy cap of off-whiteness, mega sheets of lacing all over the glass. Minimum slow and sturdy bubbles of carbonation break to the surface.

Aroma is a magnificent display of hops with a great play between a pale orange citrus and fresh grassy herb. Malts play lightly underneath with a sweet almost honeyish aspect. Overall very clean and bright with a solid waft captured in each wiff.

Taste is amazingly hopped with a bright and clean profile of the amarillo hop cone. Nice front of sweetish candy, honey, malty Kolsch-like malts and the first bit of hops bringing the orangey citrus flavors mingling in a milder tone thats very acceptable in its girth. Ends more herbal/grassy thats incredibly fresh and bright. Bitterness begins to take hold as it floats around in the finish with left over orangey things and some tartish honey notes and fresh grassy hops. First sip is a delight with the bitterness here. The citrusy orange stuff is a joy to behold. Yum, yum, yummy. And that bitterness is never over the top by too much, it seems to maintain that bright fresh edge with just enough set back on the palate to urge interest.

Feel is very clean, wickedly smooth, crisp, hoppy, with a bitterness revolving in a mild yet eager character that just screams fresh Amarillo. Body is mellow with a tamer medium body but that overall crisp brightness and freshness just begs for a drinkin'!! Fantastic stuff!
