Tan head with a lot of lace. Color is a deep brown.

Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, and cocoa. Caramel with a touch of dark fruits. Very malty.

Mouthfeel: smooth and creamy with a touch of roast. Medium bodied with a nice amount of carbonation.

Overall, a really nice porter that is easy to drink. Nothing over the top, but a lot of great flavors.

Thanks to FooFaa for sharing a growler of this on 4/12/10.

A - Dispensed a really deep reddish amber with burgundy tones and over a finger's width of bubbly beige head that receded to a swirly patch and deposited modest lacing around the glass.

S - Vanilla, caramel and butterscotch notes with a faint hop presence and light coffee roast.

T - Initial flavor is quite sweet for a porter with lots of caramel malt sweetness, toffee notes and hint of vanilla and milky lactic notes. Not much roasted character, although there is some leafy hop bitterness that develops in the backend.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, ahtough there is very minimal bristle on the tonuge. Texture is a tad thin and watery overall. Sweet finish with a light hop bite on the palate.

D - Pretty solid porter overall, although this doesn't weigh up to their other flagship brews, like Masala Mama for example.

Thanks FooFaa for sharing.

a: This was black bodied and poured with a creamy light tan colored head.

s: On the sweeter side, with just a trace of something sour. Milky with some mild roast and a little vanilla. Subtle and appealing.

t: Mirrors the smell for the most part. Sweet, milky vanilla with some chocolatey roast. I liked this a lot, but a little more roast flavor would have been welcome.

m: Very good for what I'm guessing is a lower abv porter. Creamy and light bodied with a short lived sweet finish.

d: Smooth and agreeable, very glad I got to try this. Thanks Dan.

Pours a reddish brown color with one inch of tan head that had decent retention before settling to a thin cap. Heavy spotty lacing is left on the glass. The aroma will not knock your socks off but it is a porter. Hints of chocolate, nuts, and black malt. The flavor mirrors the aroma. Just an above average flavor. Mostly malt flavors with hints of chocolate and nuts. Just a touch of sweetness. Has a bit of a cereal grain finish. A decent body and carbonation. Better than a lot of beers but I would of liked to get a bit more body in my porters. An easy drinking "light" porter with good but not outstanding qualities.

Dark brown color, showing crimson, and slightly transparent, at the edges, with a considerbly thick showing of creamy cocoa foam atop.

Nose is something else, rich, vibrant coffee tones, big cocoa powder, melded very nicely, very earthy feel in this aroma.

Taste: just what I want from a porter, a hefty body, considerable flavor, yet smooth, no chore to pass down the throat, and very inviting. Coats the throat with chocolate and espresso, tantalizes the taste buds, slips enough deliciousness down.
I'm scratching my head trying to think of a porter I can say I like better than this. It's a tough call. This has got everything it's supposed to, and more than most. Dark, rich, deep, delectable, very impressive.
If only they could switch up some of the regular brews, I'd take this over the Oatmeal Stout most of the time!

Clear, dark burgandy. Great aroma. Dry cocoa powder. Roasted malts. Milk sugar. Light yeasty esters. I really like the milky sweentess I smell (and eventually taste). The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Light-medium to medium body. Slightly chalky aftertaste. Flavors are mellow and blend together so nicely. There's a nice balance of roasted malt with a lactose-like sweetness. Chocolate tones are evident all the way through. This is really good. I'm glad they brewed a porter straight up. Porter is such a nice base beer to experiment with, and they do a good job with those, but a plain old porter done the right way is a thing of beauty in my eyes.

Poured from cask nto a pint glass, a deep pitch black, devoid of any colors, a creamy smooth fluffy inch head tops the blackness, very good staying power, with ring upon ring of lacing down the glass. Pretty much what a porter should look like. Aroma is faint, but echos of toasty malts, chocolate, a bit nutty, maybe some brown sugar even. Nice, just faint. Taste is yummy, nciely roasted malts departing a nutty quality, chocolate hints, picking up the slightest bit of sugary sweetness, just a little, a very good tasting brew. Mouth is, naturally, creamy, so silky smooth, the best style for cask imo, only the faintest carbonation, really none at all, just feels like it a little. A lovely porter, a good quaffer, very good from cask, can't go wrong with this one.

Growler: pours a steady brown to settle nearly black and stays black. A very tawny deep chestnut can be detected up to a strong light. Capping is medium in stature with a nice sandy brown evenly foamed froth. Eventually slips away to a ghostly skim and a thin collar. Some spotty lace with a few tiny strands are flung about and sticking to the glass.

Aroma is light and sweet with a fair amount of cocoa and a smidgeon of roasted malt and a tiny note of grain husk dryness.

Flavors are mild and set in tone with a moderate base of easy going, smooth cocoa sweetness. Touches a bit of roasted malt and a sliver of coffee noting the finish as it flecks at the hint of char and burnt toast even later.

Light to medium body, smooth and fairly slick with a budge just past the middle area bringing in a brief build up on the palate as it tenderizes the flavors a bit and floats off the finish with a ever so faint and lovely cocoa dryness.

A pretty decent porter. A subtle delight of a beer. Perhaps not a stand out in impactful punch in flavor as some of the other mighty brews that have graced the taps of Town Hall. But if you don't mind a simple, subtle little sit down porter. This will suit you just fine.
