At the tap house, into a shaker, pours a nice reddish Amber with a thick off white 1 finger head. Nose is ok, at best: a little orange marmalade and some biscuit...those flavors, though more toast than biscuit, as well as a little more caramel and earthy English hops come through better when I start to drink. Creamy and smooth, with a little gentle earthy and hoppy bite. Not bad but a little uneven and not quite what I remembered from last time I tried this one.

64 oz. growler bought from the brewpub with a date of 5/1/13. Poured into a Town Hall Chalice glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep copper amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid three fingers of off white head that slowly fade into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A malt forward English style aroma with lots of toasty caramel and some earthy hops. Toasted malts upfront with lots of hints of biscuit, grains, yeast, caramel, toast, and some nuts. Background of earthy hops with some floral and herbal hints. Also a little hint of citrus orange. Fairly grassy. The biscuity malt scent stands out the most. A pretty decent aroma.

Taste: Follows the aroma pretty closely with a very malt driven biscuity taste. Lots of bready toasted malt flavor with notes of biscuit, toast, grains, caramel, toffee, yeast, and nuts. Hops come through midway with some earthy floral, grassy, and herbal notes. Also a little taste of citrus orange and lemon. Bitterness comes through towards the finish. A very English tasting biscuit driven brew. Pretty good for the style.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, slightly chewy, and very smooth.

Overall: A pretty solid English style brew. Very malt forward with lots of biscuit and nutty flavors. Decent earthy background.

Poured on tap into a pint glass.

A- One finger off white head, clear red amber color nice lacing and retention.
S- The aroma is nothing special, malt upfront, some spice, toffee, some hops, earthy grass notes, slight fruitiness.
T- Taste very similar to the aroma, the malt is a lot more present than the aroma, bready, slight caramel taste but very mellow, slight hops.
M- Medium mouth feel, well carbonated, smooth drinking, easy drinkability.
O- Overall this is a descent brew, big malt profile in this beer, not my favorite beer or style but enjoyable.

4.6% ABV
Served in a shaker pint glass at the brewpub.

Appearance 4/5
Deep copper, with a white head that is small but consistent. Decent lacing.

Aroma 2/5
Smell is simply put, odd and un-beerly. No caramel, toffee, or fruit that I'd expect from an ESB. WTF?! Thankfully, it's not repulsive!

Taste 3.5/5
Not half bad when compared to the smell. Decently bitter with an alright backbone but bland in general without any malty and fruity flavors that I would expect from the style.

Mouthfeel 4.5/5
Spot on, with mute carboantion.

Drinkability 4/5
I didn't enjoy the taste all that much but mouthfeel and ABV keep it decently drinkable. A sessionable beer, if nothing exceptional.

Picked up a growler of this from Town Hall over lunch. Had a sample and thought it was pretty tasty. Drank from my Surly stein.

Appearance- Pours a crystal clear dark orange yellowish with a decently creamy one finger off-white head. A nice cap and collar is maintained the entire beer along with a big of ring like lacing.
Smell- Smells like an ESB! A fairly big hop presence on first whiff with a European hop profile. Very earthy and grassy. Slightly sweet smelling as well with a slightly toasted, almost nutty, malt profile. Not the most exciting smell on earth but pretty much on par for an ESB.
Taste- Starts with a lightly sweet kiss of malt that has a slight caramel toast. The hops are quick to follow with a lightly bitter kick that is grassy with a touch of pine. Very earthy as you'd expect with a lightly bitter and somewhat nutty finish.
Mouthfeel- Medium body with a rich creamy feel. The carbonation is fairly low as well.
Drinkability- This is exactly what you'd expect from a well brewed ESB. Nothing exciting but it's pretty solid and very drinkable. Can't really go wrong with this beer if you like the style.

Served with a finger of khaki head. Good retention and good lace. Color is amber copper.

Aroma: A lot of malts. Bread and biscuit malts. Some grassy hops. Pretty English based. Not too hoppy.

Taste: Bready with a big biscuit malt taste. Grassy and earthy hops. Again, it is pretty English based for an ESB.

Mouthfeel: Bitter and creamy. Medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. Ends a bit dry and sticky.

Overall, a decent ESB, but it was a bit more malty than I was expecting. I wish it was more hoppy. Decent, but not Town Hall's best.

Had as part of a flight this afternoon. Its a clear pale burnt orange. The smell is like most other ESBs I've had which is a sort of stale pale ale aroma. Smells sweet as well. The taste is bitter and sweet with a seemingly high level of carbonation. That combination makes this beer jump all around my mouth and continue to do that for awhile after I've finished drinking. I quite liked this beer, one of the best ESBs I've had.

Overall a very good beer . The appearance was a cooper-light brown color with a small head due to the low carbonation . The smell was a nice mix of malt with some grains coming through . The taste was excellent this is what I expect with an ESB light esters and good malt flavor with a little hops at the start and hop flavor building after swallowing. The mouthfeel was good fit into the style and the overall drinkability was very good a good everyday drinker .

Pours a clear copper with a large head that takes forever to recede to a thick cap. Moderate amount of lacing left on the glass surface.

Not a lot of aromas from this beer. It does have a musty grain mill smell with a little piney hop aroma.

The flavors are nicely balanced between the malt and hops. At first you wonder where the hops are but the hops finish strong leaving a pine taste in the mouth after the swallow.

The body is on the lighter side of medium but combines well with the low carbonation.

Nice flavor and a low ABV aids in consumption. I won't have any problem drinking this growler by myself.

Pulled with an unusually nice head from the beer engine. The body looks pretty normal with a hazy amber body, but there's a nice two finger head with thick lacing. The aroma is pretty bland, smells like a cask ale, that's it. The flavor starts out like this as well, but then hops explode on the back of my tongue. Strong lemon rind, herb, and grass hops are all over the place, like they came out of nowhere.

A fine beer and a cask ale that can stand up to some of the best around.

Clear toffee in color, thin off white head. Caramelly and biscuity aroma with plenty of hops, musty and resinous with some citrus notes. I couldn't put my finger on it but there was kind of creamy texture to the aroma too.

The taste had some of that creamy marmalade texture too, almost reminded me a bit of strawberry maybe? Pretty hoppy, musty and resinous with a citrusy orange edge to it and some floral notes, but the malt did balance it quite well. Toasted and caramelly with a slight biscuity flavor. Some apple like fruitiness shows up, reminded me of caramel apples.

Overall: a quality standard ESB, a good session beer. Nothing about it really jumped out at me, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

A- Half an inch of head. It looked amber with no activity.

S- Slight hop character with the bitter smell

T- Bitter with a hint of smoke. But not the balence I expect from an ESB.

M- Tingles, but overall the correct consistency for a ESB

D- Easy and tastes good, but its just not ESB to me.

I had this one while enjoying THs beer garden on a lovely late September Sunday.

The beer is a dark tan with brown highlights. The head is nice beige and the beer has very nice lace patterns.

The taste is of slightly toasted malts and some herbal, almost medicinal hops. I was glad to see they did not over hop this beer. It reminds me a bit of a well-handled Fullers. Some fruity apple taste emerges late. Extra points for the correct cellar temperature.

The mouth, as expected is very soft and chalky. This is an enjoyable beer that is the definition of sessionable.
