Very Good
Notes: Our interpretation of the classic ale that originated in Glasgow, Scotland. A full-body ale, rich in malt complexity. Brewed with both English and American barley and many, many specialty malts allowing hints of roasted chocolate, caramel and raisins with very little hop presence.

On tap at the brewery poured into sampler glass. Pours a clear chestnut brown with white wispy head that leaves almost no lacing. Aroma is surprisingly sweet and vinous. Flavor is intensely rich and vinous, though it’s "rich" without being "thick" or syrupy. In fact it’s a pretty thin palate on this beer. Very modest hop bitterness. Light to medium-bodied mouthfeel. Very nice scotch ale!

L: On tap at the brewery. The glass is filled to the rim with a dark mahogany liquid with a slight chill haze. S: Malty caramel nose with a slight hint of banana. T: Slight roast, caramel, toffee and slight chocolate, a little anise in the finish and not a lot of hop presence. F: medium full body, medium carbonation – a little more than it needs. O: A good Scotch ale that borders on brown ale territory..

The Hope & King Scothch ale was very good. One guest had at least six pints of this stuff. The appearance was a darker rich amber with thick white head that laced nicely. The smell was sweet with hints of earth and peat. The taste was exceptionally good for a scotch ale....the abv was not over-powering which really helped to bring out the sweet malt and earthy tones. Definite session beer for cooler nights....no shortage of this in Minnesota!!! Definitely worth a try.

A: appears a translucent brown with a slight red color. Good head and retention, and looks sticky.

S: coffee, roasted malts, and malt sweetness with a hint of peat.

T: ahh, here is the peat, but barely. It's not dominant, which is nice.

M: medium body, carbonation is medium to light, and it's smooth.

O: nice beer, but expected more bite to it. Not much peat, not much carbonation, and it's more like a brown ale. Didn't have the complexity that I expect.

Poured from a tap into a pint at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery in Minneapolis, Minn. Color was malty and dark looking. About ¾-inch of head.

Smells included amber, malts, caramel and bitterness.

Tasted immediately like caramel or toffee. Malts came in there, too. Smooth taste.

Nice mouthfeel. Very low carbonation and a smooth finish.

So glad I picked this beer after being a bit disappointed with the West Bank Pub Ale. Check it out if you are in the Twin Cities area.

On Tap at Town Hall Brewery.

Appearance - Dark Brown with a red tint at the bottom. Head is about 1 finger in width that fades in a couple of minutes.

Smell - Caramel, Toffee, Peated Scotch, Chocolate, and Burnt Malts. Smells just like a scotch ale should!

Taste - Much like the smell, we've got Caramel, Butterscotch, Chocolate, Toffee and Burnt Malts. Not as vibrant as others I've tried but still tastes rather good!

Mouthfeel - Very light bodied and very lightly carbonated as well. Very crisp, refreshing and very easy to drink

Overall - I figured I'd stop by here before I move out of town, and I'm glad I stopped by. Sure, I've have more flavorful Scotch Ales, but this is probably the easiest one I've had to drink thus far. Here's hoping that we'll one day see this in stores nationwide!

On tap. Light khaki head. Copper color.

Caramel, toffee, lightly Smokey, bacon, and red apple skins. Smooth and creamy feel. Well balanced. Medium bodied with a lot of flavor. Would be a great beer to drink with smoked meat.
