Saturday morning, Town Hall. Gotta love it! Drank from a generic pint glass.

Appearance- Pours a nice orange yellow with a big beautiful bright white head that is as fluffy as it is white. Plenty of thick lacing along with a nice cap and collar for the duration of the brew.
Smell- Beautifully fruity and plenty hoppy, the smell alone makes me doubt the merits of this being a Pale Ale! Hints of pine escape but the nice sort of citric hop rules the nose. Plenty of grapefruit and something almost watermelon like as well.
Taste- Starts aggressive and pretty damn bitter as a blast of crab apple and lemon bites the tongue hard. Slightly earthier than I thought it would be (judging from the nose) but there is a definite grassy aspect. The malt doesn't hide though as there is a bit of a caramel thing in the finish. It’s not sweet but it does cut into the bitter a bit. A numbing earthy staleness lingers and the hops are sort of vegetable like in the aftertaste. Too long of a dry hop maybe?
Mouthfeel- Crisp carbonation that really has a nice bite. The body is light and airy.
Drinkability- The smells great and tastes great but the finish is pretty weak. It borders on cardboard as it might be slightly oxidized. Maybe I'm over thinking it as the rest of the beer is really nice but not my favorite Town Hall offering.

Appearance is a brownish amber with a big white head. Nice aroma, with fresh citrus hops and some underlying caramel malt. Smelled like a some hopped up red ales, but flavor destroyed that comparison. Sharp biting hops including the unmistakable herbal taste of Summit hops. Malt provides a nice, slightly sweet balance to the hops, but is light enough that this could easily be mistaken for an IPA. Carbonation level is about medium with a lighter body and overall slick feel to it.

Typically I’m not a big fan of Summit hops when they’re present in great enough quantities to be very noticeable (GUBNA really tainted this hop for me), but Town Hall did a nice job with the blend here. Seems to be just the combination where the Summits provide some unique character but are tempered by more typical flavors of C-type hops. Really enjoyed this one as did all whom I shared the growler with.

The aroma is awesome. Fresh and fragrant. Citrusy and resiny. Orange, grapefruit, pineapple. It all translates fairly nicely to the palate. Citrusy and pungent flavor. Nice lingering bitterness. Solid caramel malt backing. Medium-full body. Light to moderate carbonation. Solid, solid pale.

Beer the way it's meant to be. In spite of my best efforts to be an omni-style drinker, I'm falling into the depths of being an hop head and love this beer. Copper colored beer that turns burnt orange in the light. Very nearly white head that bubbles up nicely without foaming too much, and lingers nicely with a heavy lace. Normally not a big fan of growlers, this one doesn't seem to have lost a step like most beers when they come home compared to the tap. This one matches or exceeds what I had two days ago on tap, but I was distracted when I drank on site, so the comparison might be fuzzier than warranted.

Enormous nose that is clean and fresh without being grassy. This is a skill that I would like to learn. Lots of fresh citrus, grapefruit from the Summit and CTZ (Columbus, Tomahawk and Zeus) according to the website. I was surprised by the 104 IBUs (again, according to Town Hall) because, while there's a very clear bite, it's so nicely balanced with the malty backbone of the beer that it's not overwhelming. The grapefruit dances lightly on the tongue and lingers there about until the next sip. Fills the mouth and really makes for a pleasant experience. The body of the beer is full and smooth, and light enough that the hops shine.

While not tasting the same, Hop Index is analogous to Masala Mama (a bit more hop than malt) and Flying Dog Double Dog Double Pale Ale (again, not necessarily a direct comparison of taste) in that it's a strong pale ale and doesn't have the qualities of an Imperial IPA. Light, refreshing, and crazily hoppy. Summer in a glass.

Review #1700

Poured into pint glass. Pours a finger of khaki white head. Good retention leaving sticky lace all the way down the glass. Color is a clear copper amber.

Aroma: A lot of hops and citrus fruits. Dank, weedy, and floral. A ton of grapefruit citrus and blood orange flavors.

Taste: Follows the nose. Hops and fruits. The taste brings some bready, pale malts. Tons of grapefruit citrus and blood orange. Reminds me of Shorts blood orange wheatwine. Dank, floral, and weedy.

Mouthfeel: Bitter. Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Ends sticky.

Overall, another awesome pale ale from MTH. Very fresh and hoppy. Awesome fruit citrus profile. Really easy to drink. Awesome beer.

10 oz pour on tap into a snifter.

A- Dark bronze color, one finger frothy off white head, nice carbonation streaming off the bottom, nice lacing.
S- Big hoppy aromas really nice, pine and grapefruit come out, the description says heavily hopped with CTZ, and summit hops, malt is present as well to balance it out.
T- The taste is not as enjoyable as the aroma, interesting taste, definitely hoppy, nice bitterness is present, malt backbone, earthy notes.
M- Medium, well carbonated, crisp finish.
O- This is an interesting beer; the aroma is fantastic but the taste lacked a bit, glad to try it once.
