Made it to Town Hall for the last pint club of the year to taste this year's Festivus. Since only Grinch's Grog was free for pint club, we were distracted briefly by this hoppy winter ale. After a draft of Festivus, we decided then and there to get a growler home to ring in the new year.

On to the beer. Dirty tan head with irregular bubbles that foam up quickly before falling to a thin film on top of an obsidian lager that has a ruby highlighted edge only with a strong back light. Burnt biscuit, slight roast and sweet cherry in the nose. As it warms the 7.5% alcohol became more apparent but still hidden behind the cherry. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel that coats the tongue with cherry and dark malt. With the cherry strong in the nose, it's a particularly pleasant drinking experience. Thumbs up from my wife as well since it meets her criteria of pairing well with dark chocolate. Well worth the trip downtown on a chilly day.

A: Black body with a light tan head and great retention.
S: Roasted grains with soft, slightly sour cherries. Almost schwarzbier-like.
T: Roasted barley with hints of coffee and chocolate. Cherries are light, not much tartness. Nice chocolate covered cherry fusion.
M: Medium bodied and fairly smooth, with lighter carbonation.

Would make a nice dessert beer, but isn't so sweet or heavy that you would mind having several in a sitting.

A: Deep, dark brown, with a wispy top-coating that dissolves rapidly. Not much lacing to speak of.

S: Sweet malts, toffee center, light molasses, and then the tart cherries rear their head.

T: Dark chocolate covered sour cherries. A very honest beer, with easily distinguishable flavors that mesh well together and is pulled off with grace.

M: A little on the lighter side. I'd like to see more density here to highlight the chocolate notes and cut the cherry tartness. A little more carbonation would work well also.

Christmas Eve beer at Town Hall - awesome start to the holidays! Drank from a generic pint glass.

Appearance- Pours pitch black with a nice big one finger dark tan head. A great cap and collar is maintained the entire beer along with loads of thick lacing. Great looking beer.
Smell- Has that very distinct Town Hall cherry scent that adorns all of their cherry beers. Not sure what cherries they use but they are distinct. A touch of dark roast that adds a touch of char to the nose but it's very light. Crisp and clean smelling with not much else going on.
Taste- Starts with a light and dry kiss of chocolate that is earthy and almost chalky. A bitter roast is also present before a nice mélange of cherry swoops in. Its not super powerful by any means as it just lends a light tart bite underneath the roast. The finish is ushered in by more of that dry, slightly bitter toast that lingers and lingers.
Mouthfeel- Nice full body with light tickle of carbonation. Dry finish.
Drinkability- Really nice beer but not the greatest in the line of Festivus. Last years was really really good though! The cherry is nice but I would like to see it kicked up a few notches. Overall tasty though- I enjoyed.

Pours half finger of tan head. Color is a deep brown near black.

Aroma: deep roast with coffee and chocolate. Reminds me of a Bavarian black lager with cherries. Kind of tart.

Taste: more fresh sweet cherries here. Very nice. Less roast. So
Some coffee and chocolate. A lot of malts.

Mouthfeel: dry, roasted, and sweet. Medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. Ends a little dry.

Overall, I don't like the nose but I love the last. The cherries are spot on in the taste. Very enjoyable.

Draft. Poured into a pint glass a dark brown/black color with a slight tan head. Pretty clean aroma. Slight dark roast and dark cherries, these don’t smell like the bright red cherries but rather the dark almost purple ones if that makes any sense at all. Dark cherry right off the bat with both sweetness and slight tartness. Clean and crisp with a medium mouthfeel. Ends with a slight roastiness. Overall, pretty decent. Some lacing.
