2014 version, 12oz bottle, white wax, 6.8% ABV. Pours brown with a large sized khaki head. Mostly smells of bourbon and strawberry with some vanilla, cocoa, sweet lactose, and medium roasted malt. The taste follows closely with a good dose of bourbon followed by roasted malt, vanilla, strawberry, and cocoa and finishes with some lactose. Mild sweetness in the finish. Below average body and higher carbonation. Overall, the flavors are very well done and exactly as advertised on the label. It could use a better body and less carbonation.

Light black in color and impenetrable to light. There's a fingernail of brown resting on top. The nose is an interesting and highly enticing mélange of sweet bourbon, strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate. I taste a hefty dose of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla with some sweet bourbon notes in the back of the palate. The mouth is very dry and smooth considering the strength. I like a good milk stout and/or dessert beer and this is truly worth seeking out.

I really didn't feel like the barrel aging added significant flavor to the base stout. It mellows out the sweetness of the base stout well (though I also had one of the base stouts aged ~6 months side-by-side with this, and that was also noticeably better than fresh). But in terms of what it really added, all I got was a bit of that woody dryness- not a significant hit of bourbon flavor, or anything that screams "this is a barrel aged stout". Maybe I've had too many [much more intense] 1+year BA imp stouts, or the base flavors are just overpowering, but I'm not getting it.

It's a very tasty dessert beer that I might buy again, but if I wanted this flavor profile I'd probably just go for the cheaper normal version (maybe with a little age on it). Barrel-aging a 6% stout seems like more of a gimmick than a real ingredient.

Poured into a snifter.
A - Pours a clear dark brown with a small head that disappears quickly.
S - Aroma is weak but what is there is oak with a bit of fruit sweetness.
T - Flavor is woody, some vanilla and a bit of strawberry.
M - Medium carbonation and mouth feel.
O - A very balanced barrel aged milk stout with some interesting flavors.

I thoroughly enjoyed this beer. The regular version is really good and the barrel really kicks it up a notch. The barrel is quite strong in the aroma but is actually at a very nice level in the taste. The barrel seems to really amplify the vanilla notes and the chocolate and strawberry are there, but not as strong. Felt a little creamy too which was awesome. Will be interested to see how they age. If you can get your hands on this one, totally worth it.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black body. A little transparent at the edges. Medium khaki head.

Smell - Oak and I think whiskey. Bright fruitiness. Strawberry?

Taste - Light roasted malt. Strawberry. A little creamy. Milk chocolate. I don't get a lot of barrel.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Medium high carbonation.

Overall - This is nice. Not a lot of barrel, but I'm not sure this beer could have stood up to a lot of barrel.
