Naugatuck Brewing Co. "Blueberry Maple Stout"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, no apparent freshness dating

Wow, what an interesting beer. I like it a lot more than I thought I would. It starts off like a stout, delivers the maple flavor across the middle, and then finishes with a refreshing flourish of blueberry. I initially thought to myself "I could drink quite a few of these but unfortunately I don't think that's the case as it does build on you a little bit, with the maple and blueberry sticking around a little bit too long. It's got a soft carbonation, and a fair bit of body, so perhaps that helps to allow it to stick to the palate. To have just one, however, is quite the charm. For whatever reason it reminds me of camping in Maine, and relaxing after dinner as the sun set over Moosehead Lake. Nice.

Came in a standard pint a dark cola color with a creamy half finger beige head atop.First whiff off maple dipped blueberries was the kicker for me,not artificial sweetness in my opinion but of the real deal, very inviting.Creamy and inviting with caramel mixed in to the maple and sweet/tangy blueberry flavors. It did get a little sweet and sticky after a bit but I mean it's a blueberry maple stout.Loved it.

12oz bottle, dated 3/18/16. Pours mostly black with a medium sized tan head. Smells of blueberries, maple syrup, and some subtle roasted malt. The taste follows closely with primarily blueberries and maple syrup with some subtle roasted malt, caramel, and lactose. The smell/flavor intensity improves as it warms up. Fairly strong sweetness and a hint of bitterness. Below average carbonation and thin body. Overall, it's exactly as advertised and with good intensity, but could use more depth/complexity and is slightly artificial.

Jan 5 2018 vintage. Poured into a tulip glass.

Pour: deep black with a nice one to two finger head. Dissipates slowly leaving a collar but little lacing.

Nose: lots of blueberry with maple. No surprise. But really pleasant and not overdone. Smells like blueberry syrup.

Taste: similar to the smell with a little coffee, roasted malts and slight hop bitterness on backend that lingers a bit. As many have said, it’s like having blueberry pancakes with maple syrup. The other impression was drinking blueberry juice with a little maple syrup added. Really tasty, well balanced, easy to drink. The nice balance of the blueberry and maple sets this one apart from similar brews.

Mouthfeel: very slight carbonation, a little thin relative to what I expected but still coats the tongue nicely. Interestingly, well after drinking, My mouth still felt like I had just eaten a handful of ripe blueberries. Very pleasant.

Overall: this is a nice change of pace. Not something I would drink all the time but it would be an easy one to pick up once in a while. A reasonable 6% ABV makes it even easier to drink any time.

Pours opaque, dark brown in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is big blueberry, cocoa, and maple sugar on the finish. Medium bodied, sweet, roasty, with medium carbonation. Delicious dessert beer. Great blueberry taste, but still a lot of stout…tastes like a beer. Should have gotten more of this.

Reading the reviews, I think people overanalyze this beer. The maple and blueberries are very strong in this, especially in the smell and taste. The body is a little thin, but I really enjoyed the flavor profile. You get exactly what this beer says it is, and that makes it a winner in my book.

12 oz bottle into a goblet. 22 Nov. 2016 bottling date.

Pours with a thin, weak head that vanishes quickly. Near black body with attractive ruby edges.

Aroma: a delightful, swirling mix of blueberry jam, maple syrup, vanilla and pancakes.

Flavor: stronger than the aroma suggests with very clear and bright notes of blueberry and maple that are semi-naturalistic. Quite sweet although this tapers off to an acceptable level by the finish.

Feel: Very smooth, medium-full body with low carbonation.

Overall: should appeal to those who lament that other "maple" stouts have, at most, only a faint bit of maple.

Amazing blueberry aroma. Slightly less amazing blueberry taste, but still a good one. Pours dark, small but creamy head. Definitely not a go-to flavor for drinking, but a good breakfasty dessert experience. Might grab a bottle now and then.

So, before judging this beer, the drinker should accept that it's a gimmick. It advertises itself as a stout, but it's really not. I was convinced to buy this beer only because the sales rep who was giving out tastings offered a pint glass if I bought a 6 pack. It tastes just like the name. It's blueberry maple syrup. If it were thicker you'd probably pour it over pancakes. The mouthfeel is syrupy and sort of thick. The taste us all blueberry maple syrup. There's no chocolately roastiness I normally associate with stouts. Cool for a once in while treat but nothing I would drink regularly.

355ml bottle, day 14 of the Craft Beer Advent Calendar - blueberry maple sounds like a fairly hearty topping for either flapjacks or a stout. And the grinning lumberjack on the label is amusing, for some reason.

This beer pours a dark, near-black brown colour, with one skinny-ass finger of weakly puffy, barely foamy, and yet somewhat creamy beige head, which leaves some sea swell lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of rather sweet caramel/toffee malt, maple syrup, blueberry pancakes, a bit of stout-like roastiness, and some equally saccharine black licorice. The taste is toasted caramel malt, bittersweet chocolate, those maple suckers sold in Canada's finer tourist trap gift shops, a receding blueberry pie fruitiness, a weird free-range sourness, and some very plain earthy, leafy, and weedy hoppiness.

The bubbles are pretty innocuous in their barely perceptible frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and not particularly smooth, as that testy fruitiness, now gone sour, kind of messes with things here. It finishes still sweet, the maple and cocoa-tinged caramel malt settling in for the long haul, with the blueberries having to leave early for their kids' recital, or something.

Overall, not a bad flavoured stout, the goods, as specified, were definitely brought - maple, blueberry, and stout. More or less easy to drink, especially if you've got to get your sweet tooth on, but I could see it getting a bit tiresome and clammy after a round or so.

DATE: December 16, 2017... OCCASION: Star Wars: Episode IV time, as we prep for The Last Jedi... GLASSWARE: Guinness tulip pint... forms a jet-black body--too dense to see through--with a creamy brown head that suggests a lively bottle... faint berry rides a robust maple syrupy sweetness, a lactic milkiness in its relief... toasted malts also make for a dessert-like expectation... first sip is inviting, lightly sweetened and medium-bodied, with a milky creaminess at the throat, making this an easy-drinking stout that warms at 6% ABV... the toasted malts make this appreciable in its own right, but the blueberry is tangible enough to add some tartness to the sweet milkiness, making for a nice counterbalance... a blueberry muffin profile is struck, with a candied, creamy finish of batter... this is a beer I didn't expect to like--forcing fruit into stout while keeping the ABV at a moderate weight--but the experience is a pleasing, lively, fuzzy and reasonably thick winter companion... currently #1 in the mix box, ahead of Darker Than Your Soul and Beam Me Up Stouty...

Appearance: Pours a pitch black, with thin tad head. Very little lace at all.

Aroma: Pure maple syrup, with a little char or cocoa. Very nice.

Taste: Very maple-y, with some minor notes of the blueberries or burnt malts. The maple seems little artificial tasting, but really this is a pretty well-done maple porter and one I enjoyed tasting.

Wow....This is a neat beer.....not that I overly love it....but man....the brewer hit his mark on this one. The beer poured an opaque black with little ecru head and no lace. The scent is blueberry pancakes with syrup. The taste is blueberry pancake with syrup. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it is quite amazing....the favor and scent. Definitely worth a try.

16oz nitro pour into a bulbous pint glass is a very dark brown/mahogany body floating an into IMG 1/2in cream colored head. Little to no head.
Aroma is blueberry, (fruit, not sugar), and if it is possible cream, but maybe that is the maple. Yes, after a little warmth, the maple aroma comes through.
Flavor is blueberry pancakes....Good know, from the 24hr diner and loaded with fruit, not that i-flop nonsense.
Mouthfeel is creamy, clean, goodness and an oily finish that only needs whipping cream.
Overall, Saugatuck has hit the mark. Can I get this in a waffle cone, please?
